Baking with kids: what are the best recipes?

Running our of ideas to entertain DC during the last rainy days of summer hols, can anyone recommend what are the best (as in easy/fun/child friendly) things to bake with a child? We often make muffins and cupcakes so was hoping to try something else. Crumble? Brownies?

I could also do with some new equipment, currently only have a muffin tray and a loaf tray (to make banana bread type things). What else would you recommend I get?

Biscuits are good as they tend to be all in one and kids can get involved in cutting them out or scooping/rolling little balls of dough . Then decorating (depending on type of biscuit) if they haven’t run out of steam by then.

Scones also good as they can get their hands in for the rubbing - if you don’t mind a bit inevitably going on the floor…

As for kit… A good springform round cake tin is worth having (23” best bet) although some cake recipes are much more child friendly than others (eg nothing where you have to carefully fold in egg whites). If you buy a reusable non stick liner for it, it makes life a lot easier! Also reusable silicon muffin tin liners if you don’t have already.

Rock cakes, impossible to muck up and you only need a baking tray to cook them.

Shortbread only has 3 ingredients and you can cut it into different shapes.

Biscuits. Then ice them.
what about bread or baked stuff like cinnamon rolls? They’ll take a while and they can do other things while waiting for stuff to prove.
pizzas are also good. That way lunch or dinner is sorted.

They love the kneading and rolling parts!

homemade S'mores bars with fresh made marshmallow!! My grands love them and we wrap them individually and put in fridge, last a week without going soggy
