Forgot to turn slow cooker on 🤦🏼‍♀️

Making slow cooker fajitas today. I took everything out of the fridge and put it into the slow cooker at 12.30pm (inc. raw chicken breasts), just walked past at 2pm and realised I forgot to turn it on (baby brain!!). The chicken is still cold and the onion I added to the pot is still frozen. Do you think it would be ok to start the slow cooker now (recipe says 3 hours on high).

Thanks all!

Defrost in a microwave, if you have one - maybe 30 seconds? Then stir fry for 5 minutes or so?

I've never heard of slow cooker fajitas

Sorry, I didn't explain myself fully. The chicken was just chilled in the fridge, and the onion was frozen, but it's good to know you wouldn't have tossed it - which was my main concern ☺️ thanks!

Not heard of this either. Chicken fajitas is one of my go to quick dinners… prob takes 15 mins start to table. Unsure why you’d bother with slow cooker?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 14/08/2025 17:18

Yes you'll be fine!

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/08/2025 17:20

Do the fajita filling as a tray bake in the oven, I do this with haloumi and the veg and spices so I can get on with the salads etc whilst it’s cooking. Or do the traditional pan way

RB68 · 14/08/2025 17:21

Technically you are outside the chicken at room temperature time BUT it wasn't at room with frozen onions in there so I would switch on and get on with it

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/08/2025 17:21

Surely in the slow cooker you don’t get the sticky dark delicious bits ….

Hi all, thanks so much for your replies! Yes, my first time trying slow cooked fajitas too. I was giving it a go, as my toddler cries for food as soon as they get in from nursery, so it's easier to have something in the slow cooker when I'm doing pickup. I have no idea how it will taste 🤞🏼

It will be fine

Your toddler can have a snack while waiting for dinner

As a PP said it could take less than 15 minutes for a basic/toddler version

Hope it worked out!

I think some pp are missing the point , @FlorrieFloo isn't asking for a quicker way to cook the meal , but is it safe to cook it.
Imo , yes it will be fine slow cookers are fairly well insulated due to the thick pot and the frozen onions will of helped to keep the temperature down.

Oh FFS, only on here would the first replies try to suggest a different cooking method. How patronising.

Your chicken will be fine OP.
