Have you ever gone off of food after years of eating it?

Not pregnancy related

i've just had an avocado in a salad and I thought "I can really see why people don't like avocados" and I wonder if that's the end of our lovely relationship

RIP me and avocados

Salmon. Smoked fish. Used to love them both but now can't bear either of them. The taste seems more extreme to me than it used to.

Yes, I’ve definitely had this from time to time. At the moment I can’t bear eating yoghurt anymore (the texture makes me want to be sick) and cooked cauliflower (raw is fine). I’ve eaten these all my life too.

Tomato based sauces. No idea why, used to love them. Had some success when swapping to Mutti tinned tomatoes instead but the love has definitely gone.

Yes! I was just thinking this the other day when trying to eat a M&S pre-prepared fruit salad and thought nope can’t do it. I think it’s all the juice at the bottom and the sogginess.

Chateaudiaries · 02/08/2025 15:44

Prawns. Used to love them now can’t stand them.

Avocado. Used to love it, but since having my gallbladder out, I just can’t face it! I have no idea what the link to my gallbladder is..

Cod. I mean I do still like cod in theory I just can't face it now after discovering a disgusting long fish worm in a piece of cooked cod
Just the thought of it makes me queasy

I think if something has given you food poisoning that's easy to dislike.

This is on no basis whatsoever, poor old avocado - you did nothing to me.

Definitely. There’s a lot of foods I used to enjoy when I was younger that I can’t eat now. Noodles, baked beans, Maccies, jelly sweets, sausages, wotsits.

Taramasalata. Used to love it, now it turns my stomach. Also a bit iffy about avocados when I used to eat loads. I think maybe it's things with a high fat content for me?

Fannyy · 02/08/2025 16:09

lol. That's random!

Protein yoghurts. I’ve eaten them every day for five years and suddenly can’t face them at all. I’m drinking clear protein drinks instead. I’m on Mounjaro, don’t know if that has something to do with it.

Dark chocolate. Totally gone off it in menopause and gone back to sweeter milk chocolate, like being a kid again.

CarlaH · 02/08/2025 16:57

Well this is weird. I too have gone off avocados. I now find them too rich and a bit on the slimy side.

Fannyy · 02/08/2025 18:12

maybe they have been over bred?!

For a long time after I had covid my palate was unrecognisable-

Developed aversions to things I previously loved-I think a lot of it was texture related-like sushi. Also went off clams in spaghetti which is a summer fav and I now can not face.

My DS does this a lot-his fav thing ever is chinese takeaway and then he inexplicably and annoyingly completely goes off it.
He def has some food issues though.

Cheese on toast. Absolutely loved it, but now the slightly oily-ness of the melted cheese makes me feel a bit ill.

It makes no sense as I still love pizza

Fannyy · 02/08/2025 18:23

@MrsMitford3 Like a cat does to catfood?!

Sushi. Used to adore it. Moved to Japan, ate a lot of sushi, now it flips my stomach.
