Anyone else noticed tuna is full of dark bits?

Tinned tuna I mean.
I hate being so fussy but I am, I swear these days a tin of princes or John west tuna is always full of little dark bits and black bits that I spend 15 minutes picking out before I’m happy to eat it.
Has this always been the case?

Yep

BusWankers · 26/07/2025 18:16

No

Buy Ortiz tuna. Be happy (just briefly before it bankrupts you).

RentalWoesNotFun · 26/07/2025 19:12

Ive thought it was more skin than before. It’s gross. My cat won’t eat any now. From any brand. They are now all Apparently shite. Makes me wonder why Im eating them…

lifeandcake · 26/07/2025 19:19

Be glad you don’t live in South Korea 😅 every third tin I opened I’d see a tuna worm. 🪱 it’s quite an unsavoury fish, really.

CryptoFascist · 26/07/2025 19:24

I thought it was just me having bad luck with it.
Does anyone else think it's gone really tasteless and bland as well?

stargir · 26/07/2025 19:35

I used to love tuna but now every brand I try looks very minced up, like cat food 😳

Iclyn · 26/07/2025 19:39

We call tinned tuna , cat tuna because it's only suitable to give to a cat and not for human consumption .
Try the tuna in glass jars , it's much more expensive but really nice .
We buy ours in Sainsbury's , M & S or Waitrose .

So what are the black bits then?

lovemycbf · 26/07/2025 20:55

Buy tinned tuna steaks not just tuna which is generally mushy bits

UnfashionableArtex · 26/07/2025 21:52

@lifeandcake £5.65 at Waitrose

DelphiniumDoreen · 26/07/2025 21:54

Waitrose tuna in olive oil is the nuts. No black bits to be seen.

I just noticed this yesterday - definitely more dark bits. Doesn't bother me though
