After years of using mandolins without cutting myself, it finally happened - a nasty fingertip wound that got infected.
I've looked at protective gloves on Amazon, but a lot have poor reviews.
Ant recommendations, please ?

Never use a mandolin without protective gloves. The ones you want are made of steel mesh, search "butchers mesh gloves" etc. What do the poor reviews say?

Mine is knitted kevlar, there were size options, you want nicely fitted not too loose. I never use my mandolin without my 1 glove. Cut myself twice in my life…every time I use the mandolin I get a surge of anxiety. It’s so efficient I use mine often despite my past, always now with a glove.

Thanks for the replies, I've spent ages searching, so was hoping for a specific brand recommendation.
There are customers' pictures on Amazon that show the fingertip of gloves sliced off - from gloves that also have good reviews !

Think I'll change tack, & look for a gadget that produced thin slices safely.

The chain mail type are most effective.

A lot of cut resistant are designed to deflect the blade that’s slipped rather than be actively cut into, which is what happens with a mandolin miss.

Have you got the gripper? Our mandolin came with one. Plastic thing with spikes that come out, that stab into the thing that you’re slicing and keep fingers well clear and behind a guard.

@ScaryM0nster Thanks, & no, I'm pretty sure I never had one.

It has made me think though. I remember the shopkeeper warning me about it, & the shop was in a town I left >30 years ago !
Time for a replacement.
