Leftover cod

RunningWhileInjured · 10/07/2025 09:40

My children, who normally love fish of all types, refused to even touch their cod last night.

it’s cooked but otherwise perfectly good. What can I turn it into? Either to retry as tea for them tonight or as a quick lunch for me and the three year old

Fish cakes
Quick and simple.
Mashed potato, salt, pepper and an optional egg to bind.
Form into cakes or fishfinger shaped
Can be frozen too

Fry or bake or grill ( if thin)

Just breadcrumb it and be done, you’ll end up making some elaborate meal they won’t eat when just covering it up is all it takes!

Definitely fishcakes. Mixed with mashed potato and a pinch of dried herbs and a dollop of ketchup. Rolled in old-fashioned paxo golden breadcrumbs or just cornflour to give a crispy coating, and shallow fried. With a few oven chips and peas or salad.

It is also good in ramen, flaked across a salad like a niçoise, in a wrap with shredded lettuce and tartar sauce, added to a curry sauce as a quick fish curry or mixed through cooked spicy rice like a slapdash paella.
