Meal ideas - low calorie, actually filling and possibly taste nice?

I'm starting a calorie-restricting diet today.

A thousand calories a day for thirty days.

What joy.

I'm after meal ideas that are low calorie (about 300-400), filling and preferably taste nice. Is it basically just eggs? Do I have to just eat eggs all the time?

I'm trying to reduce carbohydrates and I'd prefer meat-free if possible.

Any ideas very welcome. Thank you!

Salmon fillet with roasted veg is nice

Fat free Skyr with fruit and add a small amount of nuts. But frozen fruit and defrost what you need - I use the microwave for things like frozen blueberries. Smoked salmon and cottage cheese on protein bagels. Add herbs, black pepper.

Lots of ideas online and Instagram.

You want something like Dukan diet for veggies.

Cottage cheese and skyr/quark would be great

Chicken breast and whatever vegetables you enjoy. Chilli and other herbs/spices to give some interesting flavours

Fish, chicken, turkey , cottage cheese , eggs , greek yoghurt, berries, lentils, beans, couscous, quinoa , and veg make up my diet , practically no bread or added fats - like butter ( I miss bread and butter still ) and I stick to one milky coffee a day

I dont calorie count though , just make sure whatever it is Im eating, half the plate is veg

Last night was a 3 egg mushroom omelette topped with some feta cheese , served with a huge side salad, then later in the evening, when I would be looking something sweet, I had a big bowl of melon, raspberries and strawberries . DH ate the same - just he had a bread roll with the omelette and a big dollop of ice cream on the fruit

Today for brunch it will be bacon medallions , mushrooms, tomatoes and scrambled eggs and dinner is roast chicken and roasted veg - carrots, parsnips, potatoes - all done in the air fryer with a spray of olive oil, cabbage and peas

I don't avoid carbs, just don't eat as many. When I sit down the the dinner I start with the meat and veg, leaving the spuds to last, I dont want many by then

Whatever you plan, make sure you are getting enough fibre, I add oat bran to my breakfast yoghurt along with seeds. Really makes the yoghurt very filling

Try Elly Pear’s Fast Days and Feast Days book OP.

Some great suggestions here, thanks.

Yesterday was salmon, salsa verde and green beans for tea. Lovely stuff.

I'm a bit obsessive about my fibre intake @suki1964 😅

Quorn tikka masala has under 400 calories and Farmfoods do steam meals in a bag mostly under 400 calories

A bowl of veggie mince chilli with beans but no rice. Top with herbs, sliced spring onions, a spoon of 0% Greek yoghurt

A small flatbread grilled with some garlic and a big bowl of veg packed homemade curry with a tomato base.

Veggie mince stuffed Peppers with salad

big Caesar salad with light dressing and lean protein of your choice

wwyd2021medicine · 16/06/2025 09:12

Get minced turkey or pork. Fry in pan with 1 cal oil spray with onion and and low calories veggies - mushrooms esp good imo, peppers etc. add a packet of fajita or taco spice mix or your own spices and a tin of tomatoes and leave it to cook for about 10 - 15 mins.
V low in calories, high in protein and surprisingly nice.

I make beanburgers at around 300 calories for 2 plus a thin slice of halomi on them and then some carrot and cabbage salad with a tiny splash of mayo - stir well and it gets there in the end
