AIBU - Vegans

Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster.

Myself and my husband are keen to host a housewarming in summer after moving into our new home!

The only problem is that most of our friends are vegan and we wanted to host a BBQ with our new Ninja Woodfire Grill. We thought we might as well make the whole meal Vegan/ Veggie, but have absolutely no idea what to cook.

We are not adverse to eating plant based foods at all - we just don’t want to disappoint our guests 😅

Any recipes/ dish suggestions would be great!

(also not completely sold on imitation meats/cheeses we have tried in the past. Any good suggestions???)

How do I do that? Sorry I’m a complete novice 😅

You can make plant based burgers, use firm tofu, vegetables such as aubergine and large mushrooms alongside vegan sauces and salad.

Use the 'Report' icon, and in the message ask MNHQ to move it.
I was a bit blunt, but the thread title seems somewhat goady.

There are loads and loads of things you can cook, but I'd try to include things that are naturally vegan.

You might not be sold on fake meat but your guests might? This isn't pork sausages are amazing and beyond meat burgers are good too. They're the easiest option.

You could also do grilled/BBQ cauliflower.

Corn on the cob, grilled kebabs with tofu, hummus or baba ganoush, home-made bean burgers, ...

Good luck in your new home! Flowers

If you do an Advanced search for vegan barbecue in Food/recipes, there are some threads with lots of great suggestions.

I made Baba ganoush by grilling aubergines (ones I'd picked up for 10p on yellow sticker) on the BBQ last week - was really yummy. You'd need to do that bit the day before.

I'd do:
• corn cobs.
• I like fake meat burgers and sausages so I would do those, others may be different so look into home made burgers if your friends don't like the fake meat style.
• some vegetable kebabs, aubergine, courgette, peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc. If you want to mix it up, you could make a marinade out of soya or coconut yoghurt, spices, lemon juice and garlic (I would strain the yoghurt if you can first if you're mixing juice in)
• mixed salads
• roast potatoes (I do these in the oven)
• dips

Shout out to ChatGPT which has been amazing in helping me make recipes for mixtures of guests, including adjusting quantities for numbers of attendees. I tell it my quadary, it comes up with a few suggestions, I tweak what it comes back with. It is my new one stop shop for new recipes.

We had a very successful Indian-themed veggie/vegan bbq.

On the bbq:
Bhaji burgers
Tofu tikka skewers
Tandoori paneer skewers
Naans and roti
Mango

Sides:
Bombay potato salad
Kachumber salad
Chickpea pilau rice
Popadums

Condiments:
Raita
Mango chutney

That’s a great Idea! Bhaji burgers sound like something I think everyone would enjoy. I was also possibly thinking of doing some Greek food too, as a lot of it seems to be plant based. Can never go wrong with hummus and carrot sticks in my eyes!

Watch out for cheese, eggs and yogurt, as they are not vegan, and the vegan alternatives are not that great.

Personally I'm a big fan of the jalapeño Beyond Burgers. Is be very happy with those done on a BBQ
