I have a big bag of tiny macaroni (may be called something else?). No one likes mac n cheese or pasta in soup.
Can anyone think of something else I can make?

Pastistio?? It is a Greek dish with macaroni, beef and then bechamel I think…I’ve never made it but it is yumm!!

nahthatsnotforme · 01/06/2025 13:23

So it's like macaroni lasagna then ? It looks delicious 😋

In Sweden we eat macaroni pudding, which is admittedly close to being mac and cheese - you mix the cooked macaroni with ham and maybe cooked onions (not sure) and pour over a mixture of eggs and milk/cream like a quiche. Cook in oven.

TheLadyIsAVamp · 01/06/2025 18:05

It also works well in a pasta salad.

loropianalover · 01/06/2025 18:08

I’d use it for pasta salad with roast chicken.

But why can’t you just do any pasta dish you’d normally make, just with this tiny shape? Spag Bol, ragu, a vodka sauce, pesto and Parmesan, lemon and basil, creamy mushroom..

A local pub used to be run by a Greek family and that dish was always on the menu. It was yummy. They served it with a greek side salad.
😀

Delia Smith’s meat & macaroni pie.

Tuna macaroni is one of my guilty pleasures and my go to dish if I am exhausted or ill (my DH makes it for me).

Tin of tuna, tin of condensed tomato soup, cooked macaroni (or other pasta), mix, put in dish, sprinkle cheese on top, put in oven/air fryer/microwave to melt the cheese and heat through. Delicious!

isthismylifenow · 01/06/2025 18:24

Just use this pasta in place of others in:

Carbonara
Bolognaise
Lasagna type by layering the smaller pasta
With meatballs
Chicken and pesto

There really are many more options rather than Mac n cheese.

Anyone else thinking ‘it’s macaroni cheese, not mac ‘n’ cheese, FFS!?

<totally misses the point of the thread and expects to be flamed and told that’s what it is called in the US, whilst being equally irritated by people talking about menopausal women getting (have gotten?) hot flashes, when it is hot flushes>

Sorry, I’ll get my coat and head over to Pedant’s Corner…

one of my favourite recipes, posted many times on here. Fab family meal and a great alternative to lasagne if you’re hosting a crowd and not everyone can sit to cut lasagne

My tuna bake for dh’s lunches is

Some diced onion and garlic melted in a little oil.
1 small tin of tuna in water or olive oil.
A splash of bottled tomato pasta sauce.
a handful of corn kernels.
Some spinach, frozen is fine.
Black olives, sometimes halved, sometimes not.

cook gently until hot with a bit of sauce left. Pour over small elbows of pasta. Top with cheese and bake until golden. Or just serve without the faff of cheese and baking.

Yes you do. You know you do. Water crust pastry with macaroni cheese inside it. A stunning pie from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

You haven’t imagined it! My Mum sometimes made it and you used to be able to get it in tins

FalseSpring · 02/06/2025 08:11

I am loving some of these as I often have tiny macaroni.

My only suggesttion is minestrone soup. Easy to make and surprisingly filling.

Ok, Swedish macaroni pudding, or makaroni "box" i.e. casserole dish ;) - found an English recipe on a blog so I didn't have to translate it myself
https://www.freestylecookery.com/2010/01/recipe-macaroni-box-makaronilada.html

His pictures aren't that appetizing maybe but it's a firm childhood favourite here. I mean, it's fine. I wouldn't ever have cravings for it. I also wouldn't eat it with ketchup like the blogger does because I'm not a psychopath.

Recipe - Macaroni box / Makaronilåda

The English title of this recipe is a direct translation of the Swedish one. Another title could have been pasta bake but I kind of like the...

Dirty macaroni is amazing. I've only done the Pinch of Nom version - I've just googled it but it's not available on the website at the moment, only in the actual book, but there are other versions on the internet.
It's macaroni with mince, tomatoes etc

I've found a link here but it goes to The Sun website so you might not want to click: https://www.thesun.co.uk/fabulous/13626545/pinch-of-nom-healthy-delicious-recipes-for-weight-loss/
