Can anyone give me ideas for making a poke bowl ?
Is it a mix of protein and carbs ?

It’s a new name for salmon or chicken or tofu and rice and salad and something pickly and something crunchy nicely arranged in a bowl. 🤣The selection of a beautiful bowl is essential. I love making one for myself.

Sorry but I read puke bowl

Poke bowls started out being made with raw fish but as said above the name now seems to be just be used for any protein. I believe Buddha bowls which are around first is the vegan/vegetarian version. Balance bowls seem to be the same thing.

The bowls I've seen certainly look colourful.
I suppose some salmon..rice..crunchy carrot etc ..?

You want freshly cooked rice. The contrast between warm rice and cold fish is one of the points.

We do
rice
sushi-grade salmon in cubes
something leafy - often baby spinach
something crunchy - one thing or several depending on energy; grated carrot, radishes, bean sprouts, cucumber
sliced red onion or spring onion
I don’t bother with pickles but it’s pretty nice with pickled red onion
sesame seeds
ponzu sauce or just soy sauce
other dressings? Mayo, sesame dressing, most often a spicy one like sriracha mayo.

Oh avocado is nice - something creamy!

Like you said, basically different textures.

My recipe:

  • Rice with rice vinegar as a base
  • Protein: tofu or edamame beans (I'm vegetarian)
  • Baby spinach (or lamb's lettuce)
  • Raw veggies: grated carots, radishes, cucumber...
  • Fruits: pomegranate, kiwi or mango
  • A shredded nori sheet
  • And some sesame seeds
i only season with rice vinegar

^this is the recipe I use. It's helpful to have a recipe you can riff off of when you become more confident. I do make sushi rice with sushi rice seasoning (rice vinegar, salt and sugar) because it's delicious.

Poke Bowl Recipe

Poke Bowl is packed with sushi-grade ahi tuna seasoned with soy, honey & plenty of sesame. Who knew you could bring your favorite sushi home?
