I’m on a hunt for an egg free cake- and I found this one. I’m going to make it next week, butI can’t decide whether I’m optimistic or not! Not sure, in particular about the aniseedy flavour. I love Ottolenghi, though so fingers crossed. Place your bets/opinions here!

S’fouf b’ Debs (Lebanese-inspired carob cake) | Ottolenghi Recipes

A Lebanese semolina cake, s'fouf d’Debs means “rows and rows.” Ours swaps turmeric and sugar for carob syrup from Sindyanna, adding rich depth. Cut into diamonds, serve with cream or napkins. Browse online for more.

I bet it’s amazing, but be prepared for disappointment from anyone who eats it expecting a more straightforward sweet chocolate cake.

I’d eat it made with the date syrup alternative , but I can’t stand carob, and I’m generally not fussy.

I don’t like carob either-I’m hoping I won’t be able to taste it…..
