My DS has asked me to make Scotch Eggs foe a family picnic. Looking forward to give it a go-it doesn’t look hard. But one person is allergic to eggs-and I would love to have a go at egg free Scotch eggs! What could I put in the middle? A ball of black pudding is the only thing I’ve come up with so far. Any ideas?

There was a recipe in, I think, Olive magazine not long ago for mini Scotch eggs that had a stuffed olive in the middle.

Or how about vegan Scotch eggs? More extreme than you need but...

Mozzarella ball? Mini one obviously.

Stuff mini pepper with cream cheese.

(More) Meat. So it's just a meatball breaded and cooked.

Cherry tomato possibly too slippery

Pickled onions could really work with sausage meat!!

Wow-such brilliant ideas and so quickly! Thank you! I suspect people be fighting over the egg free ones…. My dd suggested a cream egg.

Years ago you used to be able to buy something called a buffet bar. They were a scotch egg but longer and the filling was coleslaw.

A small cooked beetroot, you can buy vacuum packs of them.

A ball of coarse pate, I'd chill it before coating in sausagemeat to help it keep its shape.

A wedge of Brie or Camembert.

The Cream Egg ones have to be done. Sadly the egg allergic person is also allergic to chocolate, but to be honest, I’ve kind of lost interest in him at this point!

I’m going to make a selection-I’ll probably create tasting notes and a score card…..

If it’s just the one dish with eggs in it, can’t you just make it with eggs? Won’t your son be disappointed not to have eggs in it?
The chocolate ones look amazing

The mozarella sounds like the best idea so far. Maybe mushroom pate if doing small eggs?

Don’t worry, I’ll do egg ones as well! But I’m getting excited about the idea of a selection. I absolutely love doing picnics and this is the first one of the year.
