Lemon curd

Or any curd really! I’ve developed an addiction to Aldi blackcurrant curd mixed into Greek yoghurt but I can’t find it Sad it’s been a fixation for weeks!
what’s the best one? I have access to all supermarkets including booths
the Aldi one was sort of more… runny? I tried a cheap lemon one but it spread more like jam and didn’t work for mixing

Yes! I love that but it gets expensive so I want to do a DIY version

The Tesco Finest one is nice. I think generally they are all going to be spreadable like jam as that’s kinda how lemon curd is, but should still mix nicely into yoghurt. You could always thin with a bit of water.

I picked up the Morrisons the best one yesterday which seems good so far, more liquid and smoother

the cheap one I got was more like.. jelly? Didn’t mix well at all as it just went into smaller lumps of jelly!
might have to hunt for a blackcurrant one online

The Waitrose no 1 lemon curd is delicious

Kxidwn · 04/05/2025 14:55

Not come across blackcurrant curd but it sounds amazing

FullOfLemons · 04/05/2025 14:57

Another vote for Waitrose 1

It also has a nice texture for mixing with yoghurt

Apart from lemons you need eggs to make a good curd, which are sadly expensive.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/05/2025 14:57

You can make it in the microwave in minutes using the recipe by Nancy Birtwhistle.

Aldi had a passion fruit one as well. If it comes back in I’m buying the whole shelf Blush

I was intrigued by this magical blackcurrant curd so I googled it as I love lemon curd.
Got loads of Slimming World TikTok results as it’s a ‘syn’ whatever that means. Maybe the slimmers have cleaned Aldi out?!
Tiptree seem to do one though OP.

honestly I didn’t even like lemon curd before trying the blackcurrant one, but it’s the nicest texture and just sharp/sweet enough. Think I was buying a jar a week at one point Blush

I like the Morrisons Best lemon curd if I'm buying it but it's actually quite nice to make it- you'd get the consistency you want too (less egg if you want it thinner). I used the shop bought in a cake recipe so it combines nicely into other things iyswim.
I'd never heard of blackcurrant curd either but it sounds delicious.. there's a blackcurrant bush in the jungle garden somewhere so I might give it a go! Thanks for the suggestion OP and I hope you get your fix one way or another soon!

They do passion fruit as well ❤️

(in Aldi)

Waitrose one is my go-to ( No1 Lucious Lemon Curd) if I go there I buy 3-4 jars .
Sainsbury TTD do a Sicilian Lemon Curd all year but it's very thick . At Christmas they sometimes do a destive one but not the last couple of years <boo> . They did Blood Orange Curd and Clementine Curd in the past .

But.......home made lemon curd is the bizz , easy to make but you do need to stay beside it . I don't like grated rind so I used a peeler to do thin peel then sieved it when it was still warm .

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 04/05/2025 16:41

@lunalovegood25 few jars in the Aldi near me, it’s weird like that though they haven’t had the foodie market peanut butter in mine for weeks
or the French block butter, then it reappears after a few weeks

Thingsthatgo · 04/05/2025 16:44

Marks and spencer lemon curd - I think it’s Sicilian - is the absolute best. It’s tart and lemony and makes an amazing layer in a lemon cake.

Dartmoorcheffy · 04/05/2025 16:46

I whip it up with coconut cream to make a dairy free dessert. Its lovely.

Yes. We like this one. Don't buy cheap lemon curd. It is disgusting. Lemon curd should contain butter, lemon sugar and eggs.

Butter free lemon curd is a travesty.

Asda extra special one is my go-to. Their cherry jam from the same range is amazing.

As for Aldi curds- where are they displayed? With fruit preserves? Would love to try different flavours!
