Does anyone have a really good recipe for coffee and walnut cake please? I don’t like the buttercream too sickly and like the coffee taste to be reasonably strong!

Use real coffee made with the smallest amount of hot water you can use to dissolve it instead of Camp if that is what you are using. With the icing I prefer a swiss meringue buttercream which is not as sweet and I add some of the dissolved coffee same as with the cake but a small amount of Camp as well but that is more for colour, for some reason I dislike the colour of the icing with just the dissolved coffee. As there is no sugar in the dissolved coffee unlike the Camp it doesn't add sweetness. Other than that any basic victoria sandwich recipe will do and just add the coffee until it's looking strong enough in colour to you, the flavour from the buttercream is more important than trying to get very strong flavour in cake itself.

I've had very good results with the following:

If you like a strong coffee flavour try watering the bottom layer of the sponge with Kahlúa or another coffee liqueur.

If you don't want such a sweet icing then try mixing walnut butter with your chosen sweetener for a thin spread for the middle.

If it's the butter that's the problem then a walnut marzipan w/o coffee is delicious.
