Sausage and cider casserole - recipes? And would pear cider be rank?

Ok, further to my thread below about friends coming to dinner and needing a cheap and cheerful recipe (which no-one answered - what have you all got a life or something ?) I've now decided to make a sausage casserole, have bought 2kg of sausages for a fiver at a car boot sale (from a butcher - not just a random seller ). So any recipes?

Was thinking about sausage and cider casserole but I only have a bottle of pear cider - would that be weird? I think I get the gist of how to make it, (brown sausages and veg, add a bit of flour, add cider) but would you add a bit of cream perhaps? What herbs would go, if any?

Would it be ok with mash? What about pear mash - too much?

I've done the Delia recipe, with normal plain mash. Very nice and goes extremely well with champagne Can't seem to get link at the moment, but basically do as you say. She prescribes apples (bramley + cox), juniper berries (I didn't use that because no clue what they are), onions, garlic, smoked bacon, thyme, bay leaves. Also a little cider vinegar (I didn't). No need for cream.

Pear cider can be very sweet and so not really suitable. I mean that Pear Koppenberg stuff is gross. and pear mash I don't think would be great but regular mash or even celeraic mash or sweet potato mash would be nice.

I've added a bit of Perry before, but not as the whole cooking liquid. It was fine but I wouldn't do pear mash as well. Agree with Carmenere, celeriac mash would be nice.

bit at feeding guests garage sale sausages...

they must have been just past bst before date to be that cheap.

Good luck anyway.

Er no, they were from a butcher who had a van there, just like at local markets where you are support local sellers. And they were cheap because they are competing with the supermarkets. As if I would give guests out of date sausages, what a random thing to say.

Anyway, I didn't use pear cider, I used normal cider and it was bloody lovely
