Hot Cross Buns

I make hot cross buns with a very enriched dough-butter and eggs. This year I have to make them egg free. Will they still be nice?😥And is there anything that shines as much as egg wash? I could use sugar syrup but there are those among us who don’t like sticky things……

Leaving out the egg wont make a major difference, glaze with milk, ideally full fat or even cream to get it brown.

I don't bother with shiny as I don't like them sticky either.
