Morrison's Is Overpriced These Days

I won't be ordering with Morrison's anymore.

We are a household of 5 on a low income (LI) budget and have been shopping with Morrison's for some time. However, over the past year or so, the prices have crept up to ridiculous levels. We signed up to the More card scheme but you have to spent around £250 to get a five pound voucher, for example, my £89 shop only gave me 405 points. Herbs there are very expensive, for most, they only have the Schwartz at £2 per jar, whereas Ocado do their own for £1. A lot of items are cheaper at Ocado and there is a better choice. Morrison's now also levy a ridiculous 5% pre-authorisation amount which as an LI family, we can't afford to have that kind of money sitting around.

Has Morrison's been taken over by a new owner or something? It didn't used to be like this. They've also shrunk their Savers' range too. Disgraceful. They are now worse than Tesco (who will gladly rob you blind), and have been reported as the most expensive supermarket. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/morrisons-overtakes-tesco-priciest-supermarket-28967182

If you are a family on a budget, avoid Morrison's is my advice.

Morrisons overtakes Tesco as 'most expensive supermarket' as prices rise

The only time that the supermarket chain has not been named as the priciest option was last week.

Morrisons has long been the most expensive. It was briefly overtaken by Tesco for a very short time.

I can’t believe anyone shops there really

I've shopped at Morrisons for years and my bills have gone through the roof. I'll change next week to Ocado and see how they compare.

DenholmElliot11 · 28/03/2025 12:27

Their stuff is really poor quality too.

As an aside - I was in marks and spencer earlier this week and there was hardly any item in there that didn't begin with a £4! OK not bread/milk/veg but almost everything else. So depressing.

Morrisons sell own brand spices in store so it’s pretty shocking that they aren’t available to online shoppers. The world foods aisle isn’t great for spices in bigger bags but that’s for spices more likely to be used overseas like ginger rather than say chives.

Private equity owned. It's what's killing the high street, not shoppers.

It was bought by a private equity firm, so shoppers are having to cover their interest costs, plus a lot of people get discounts off their shopping so you are having to subsidise them.

we no longer have a Morrisons here but the last time I went in one I found myself walking round muttering “ it’s dearer than Waitrose!”
