Matcha - is it just a trend?

I’ve been swayed by all the types of fruity matcha I’ve seen all over the internet, so I’ve ordered some and some sugar free strawberry syrup. Is it just a trend? Or is it actually good?

It's currently trendy but a lot of the matcha is very poor quality so people may assume all matcha tastes crap, which could affect how long the trend sticks around. I didn't realise how nice matcha is until I tried the good stuff in Japan - though even the good stuff isn't to everyone's taste over here.
Try the matcha on its own before you add any flavours. It can also be used in baking, makes great white choc + matcha cookies.

Proper matcha isn’t, no. Obviously, the Japanese have been drinking it for a bazillion years and I’ve certainly been making matcha at home for probably 10 years. But if you’re putting fruity syrup in it, a la something on TikTok, then probably. It’s very worth trying the nice ceremonial grade stuff and having it as is, maybe with a tiny bit of sugar, too, just so you can appreciate the flavour. You might find you like it more.

I wouldn’t drink it with fruity additions. I can’t imagine that would be nice at all tbh.
