Non-spicy chilli con carne recipes please

Yes, I realise that these terms are contradictory!

I’m hosting next weekend and want to do jacket potatoes, rice, tortilla chips, guacamole, sour cream etc with two types of chilli (meat and veggie). In-laws are coming and don’t like any spice which is a PIA, so the meat chilli needs to be non-spicy but have a lovely taste.

One guest is also gluten free hence easy recipe choice. Plus some kids.

Please could someone recommend me a mouthwatering non-spicy con carne recipe?

thanks

Dice celery, carrot, onion, a red pepper and a sweet potato and fry off in olive oil and add two teaspoons of smoked paprika and then three tins of mixed taco beans in tomato sauce (I get mine from Aldi)

Not spicy at all but nice and flavoursome.

I would just use any chilli recipe and leave out the hot spices

So for example I use this recipe - in your case I would still use the cumin and paprika (sweet paprika not smoked or hot) and leave out the cayenne as that is the hot one.

Or do they not like any spice whether hot or not? If they don’t like any spices at all then I wouldn’t make chilli sorry! I’d do a casserole or a pie with mash.

Could you just do pulled pork or chicken? It would work with the other elements of your meal.

Thanks all.

I’m veggie and feel more confident cooking something like chilli that some other things.

They do spices, just not spicy.

And if not, they’ll have to just stick to the jackets, cheese etc!!

The Hairy Bikers recipe looks good and easy to adapt

I use the Hairy Bikers recipe. As I am not into very spicy food I use 1 teaspoon of mild chilli powder and then follow the rest of the recipe but also add chopped peppers. DH then adds chilli flakes to his portion

Dice two onions
Mince a lot of garlic cloves (10-12)
Soften onions and add garlic on low heat
Add very lean minced beef or lean minced turkey; turn up heat
Brown the meat
Add 2 or 3 heaped tablespoons of ground cumin and 1 tablespoon sweet Hungarian paprika and stir through for a minute or two
Add 15 ozs crushed / blended tinned tomatoes and a little water (a teacup or so) to rinse out the blender or tins
Add I packet (12 ozs ish) frozen sweet corn - check packaging for gluten info
Add 1 or 2 tins of black beans (8-16 ozs) thoroughly drained (check for gluten info on tins)
Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally

*you can soak dried black beans (or kidney beans if you can't find black beans) overnight and simmer afterwards to soften them if tinned beans contain gluten.

If the rellies can't stand any spice at all, cumin still adds a good flavour. If they tolerate a little spice, add a sprinkling of pepper flakes to the chili.

I wouldn’t do chilli for non spice eaters, it doesn’t matter if you put zero chilli in it my mother will claim it’s spicy, won’t eat paprika, cumin etc which you need for flavour!

id just put a grated cheese & coleslaw out for the non spice eaters

Another fan of the Hairy Bikers' recipe. I've tried a lot, and this is my favourite.
