Food fads that you actually like or that has stood the test of time

Bubble tea and Dubai chocolate seem to be the in thing at the moment, or at least it is in the UK. Bubble tea has been around much longer in places like Hong Kong.

Pistachio flavoured everything is very last year, but I prefer pistachio in their natural form.

Not bothered about salted caramel.

Going back to the late 90s I realise now that goat's cheese is rank, but I still like sundried tomato paste in things like lasagne or bolognese sauce.

Jay Raynor once wrote a wonderful rant about a restaurant that served his bread rolls in a flat cap.

Too right! And don’t want to drink tea out of a jam jar!

Beetroot, goat’s geese and rocket aren’t fads they are a nice lunch. With half rye sourdough bread preferably.

I grew up eating baked tomatoes, olive oil and feta (and spicy peppers), and was surprised when it became a trend on social media all of a sudden. I do not like this mixture with pasta, though. Greeks eat it with bread!

Never liked red velvet. Fed up of salted caramel everything and fed up of cookie dough stuff. Although I do love cheese it will be a long time if ever that I eat goats cheese again. I do like Feta but building up to have it again. I have a greek salad to eat. After staying in Kephallonia for a while I then got fed up of the stuff. Took me 6 months to eat it again! Used to love it!!!

I still quite like those roasted tomatoes - no sun dried. Also really like pine nuts in pasta or veggie dishes but can be very pricey.

@TheLadyIsAVamp
And a poke bowl ! Only had it once, in Florence, & wondered why it was not on a plate.
I spent 3 days in Hawaii, & never saw it .
And Singapore noodles are not seen in Singapore.

I digress. I was glad to see the back of nouvelle cuisine, my dentist advises against all caramels, I don't like anything on my chips that makes them soggy, I dislike all tea .
I'm fond of goats cheese, prawn cocktails, & all forms of offal. * *

Singapore noodles are a colonial British dish like Bombay mix, chicken tikka masala or char sui. Sort of based on foods from a given area, but for an expat market, not a local one.

Cheese and pineapple on a stick. I remember mum always serving it on buffets in the early 80s and it has never gone out of fashion for me. In fact, friends often prepare it because they know I like it so much 😂 On wooden cocktail sticks, stuck in half a melon wrapped in tin foil (obviously).

I do love a smashed croissant. The panini press does then very well. I like cheese and ham.

ArcticBells · 30/05/2025 19:37

Pesto. It’s become a staple

I love salted caramel. Green and Black's did a bar in the early/mid 2000s but it wasn't popular, I loved it and then bought whatever salted caramel I could find.

Brioche buns for burgers are just better in every way. I'm really glad that they became a normal thing rather than a trend. I'm really glad that honey and cheese has caught on here too, it's lovely!

Oh god, I love cheese and pineapple. Mind you, I'm one of those heathens that lines pineapple on a pizza too. It's the sweet and sour thing.

@beguilingeyes I knew I'd find my people here 😂
