Do you have a foolproof burrito wrapping trick?

By that I mean.. how do you fill and wrap your burritos?!
I love burritos but at home it's so hard to get the wrap so well "wrapped" like they do when you buy from somewhere

Usually used foil to keep it all together but it's the filling and wrapping I want to master

What are your go to fillings?
Here's mine:

  • pulled chicken
  • refried beans
  • rice with sweetcorn and diced peppers
  • sour cream
  • salsa
  • guacamole
  • lettuce
  • cheese

put Filling in a line in the middle of the tortilla north to south as you are looking at it. . Fold in left and right sides over the filling. While holding on to them, start rolling from the bottom with your thumbs, constantly tucking in the edges as you roll. Once the wrap is rolled, turn it so the seam is on the bottom, toast in a dry pan to seal the join

I think part of the trick is to put less filling in than you'd think.

I think this is one of the reasons why wraps are so popular in food outlets, they can get away with not using much filling.

Having said that they seem to use plenty of filling and wrap them well at Tortilla, where they make them in front of you. Perhaps go and get one of those and watch them carefully.

The wraps they use at Barburrito etc are bigger and stretchier than supermarket ones, I've been searching for them for years, nowhere sells them

I was going to say I learnt from watching people in Tortilla 😂

Steam your tortilla over boiling water to make it nice and pliable.
Put the filling on the left side of the tortilla. NOT in the middle.
Fold up the bottom.
Fold over the left side.
Roll it over the right side.
Eat from the open top.

I adapted a chicken recipe from good food.
Bag of quorn pieces
2 tins kidney beans in chilli sauce
2 tins tomatoes
As much chopped veg as you can muster
200g rice
Paprika and cumin to taste

All goes in the slow cooker until it's cooked.
Dollop on wrap, grated cheese, fold sides over then roll.
Once cool, place in freezer bags and freeze.

When you want to eat one, place on a plate and microwave 2.5 minutes, then dry fry to crisp up

There are Mission XL wraps at asda and sainsburys they are pretty big but not quiet restaurant size. Also tortillas should be warmed first, it will help massively with the wrapping process (and they'll taste better).

This is a good video on how to wrap a full burrito: https://youtube.com/shorts/xEF9u6K0WBc?si=2sIsm9GGqtPrOz6b

@baffledpuzzledandconfused That sounds amazing and something I could prep for my teens. Approx how long in slow cooker and which setting? Thanks.

baffledpuzzledandconfused · 26/02/2025 20:14

Hot until it's simmering then low. Usually the carrots take the longest to cook. I throw in peppers, mushrooms and sweetcorn.

Have to say I rarely eat them myself as I prefer spicier food but dc love them and would eat them every night, which is fine by me tbh

If I want to bulk them out more, add more tomatoes, chilli beans, rice.

Make sure you buy plenty of wraps. I also use a big bag of value grated cheese to save time

That’s not a burrito though - burritos are fully enclosed and cut through the middle

@VanCleefArpels, well, I learned it in Mexico where they called it a burrito, so...
