I was just reading another thread on a slightly differnt topic and can't believe how much other peoples 2 year olds eat compared to mine. (Sorry - Im sure how much toddlers eat has been done to death here, but cant find a current thread!) So what do you think of this -my DS1 is 2 and a half and in an average day eats:

am:
glass of milk
5 or so raisin wheats /small amount of rice crispies etc
half a banana

lunch:
hummus or cheese etc sarnie (one piece of bread) with cucumber
yoghurt
few blueberries

tea:
4 tablespoons of shepherds pie or such like, peas, carrots
fruit pud of some kind (eg organix fruit pudding pot)

He doesnt really want to snack so thats it...does this sounds way too little? I think it probably is. Some days he wouldnt bother eating at all if I didnt stand and watch him put it in his mouth...

I think that sounds fine

(I suspect I am one of those on the other thread you mentioned!)

I know toddlers that eat waaaay less than your ds and are absolutely fine. Fussy, and do their parents heads in, but fine

nickytwotimes · 09/05/2008 19:51

Mine eats less than that most of the time and he is fine. So long as lo is full of beans (lol!) no need to worry.

JohnsonsIsBest · 09/05/2008 19:51

that is a fab amount!!!!
wish mine always ate that, hardly ever any lunch and our DS is the same age

ChirpyGirl · 09/05/2008 19:53

(sounds familiar!)

I started a thread on this purely because somedays DD eats this much or less and doesn't mention a word about being hungry, other days she'll hoof down twice as much and be wailing about food for hours.

As long as he isn't begging for food I wouldn't worry!

My little one probably eats about the same. She has a bottle of full fat milk morning and evening as well. She is a right skinny minny but seems happy enough. You can,t force them to eat

I think a rough guide is a toddler requires 11 tbspns of food a day. It looks like that is about what your ds is getting. If he is happy, growing and full of energy then he should be fine.

p.s. I would love it if my dd's (5 and 2.6) ate such a good diet.

My dd2 (2.6) -today

Breakfast: 1 weetabix with milk
1 small glass apple juice
1 breadstick

Lunch: 2 small drop scones
raisins/apple offered but refused.

Tea: 2 tbspn of tomato soup + 1 slice bread.
1 small choc crispy (homemade)

Phew, thats ok then! Ta everyone - back to bread and water tomorrow in that case

My ds had:

Milk on waking

Bf: Few spoonfuls rice crispies, 1 bite teacake

Lunch: 1 bite french toast

Snack: Half pack organix crisps

Snack: 1 piece apple

Tea: Few pasta twists and a spoonful of tuna

Milk and then fell asleep...And will prob wake up hungry!

So I'm very jealous!

He is 2 in July - full of energy tho!
