Urgent advice needed from domestic baking goddesses

I have one soon-to-be hedgehog cake baking in the oven as we speak, I have used my usual choc cake recipe which I normally split into two tins, but this time I have put all of it in a Pampered Chef glass bowl to get my hedgehog-ish shape. Tell me, do I need to leave it longer than the usual 25 mins if it is all in one dish? Also I am baking at altitude so should I leave it a bit longer to compensate for that too?

I would say that twice the amount of mixture needs more cooking time, yes.

Not sure about the altitude thing though ... can't think it would make that much difference.

FloridaKbear · 09/05/2008 19:50

I would bake it longer and maybe turn it down a bit so doesn't crisp up the edges and top.

cameroonmama · 09/05/2008 19:53

Thanks will go and check on it now!

cameroonmama · 09/05/2008 20:01

It is a wonderful place I am lucky. Errm, I can't see a thing apart from my security lights, its pitch black outside

so are you from there originally or have you moved there for a reason?

(you can tell me to mind my own business - am just very nosy!)

cameroonmama · 09/05/2008 20:11

Nose away, I can't go to bed until this cake is cooked

Dh is born and schooled here and UK and we have lived and worked around different places in Africa for the last 10 years, until we decided that we should stop moving. So he has set up a business with a global co here, and this is now home. Lucky us. Have you been here before?

no never - I would love to though - it looks absolutely wonderful - you are very lucky.

what is the occassion for the hedgehog cake?

cameroonmama · 09/05/2008 20:31

We have plenty of space if you want to visit (assuming you don't have 27 children that is)

Hedgehog cake is for ds2's first birthday on Sunday...The other two dc are mucho excited, so I thought I'd better start it tonight, just in case it went wrong

oh no as predicted a disaster has ensued and the middle has collapsed inwards Maybe i could shore up the middle with a fairy cake or two? Turn it upside down and cover it in chocolate, noone need be any the wiser.

BBBee · 09/05/2008 21:00

oh it will be fine - it is all about the look with cakes - don;t worry - with these things the more chocolate the better.

so how long have you been there? are you originally from the uk? can you tell I am quite

cameroonmama · 09/05/2008 21:05

I could fill the middle with sweets, there's an idea

We were due to arrive after spending a year in Somerset a couple of days after the elections in December when it all went pear shaped here! We postponed for a week and arrived in the middle of a major crisis, everyone thought we were bonkers, but it was fine in the end. So only about 4 months. And yes I am from the UK originally. Plenty of jobs out here if you fancy it
