Best cream alternative for dauphinoise potatoes please?

As above really. For recently diagnosed lactose intolerant guest who used to love them!
Or an alternative bake in the oven non-dairy potato side dish to go with roast lamb?
I've tried boulangere before and can never get them right-by the time they are cooked through they are almost burnt.
Thanks in advance

Do you cover the dish with foil? I cover with foil until the potatoes are almost done, then crank the oven up, remove the foil and give them another 20 minutes to brown.

Can't you just get lactose-free cream?

Stick can work and definitely cover.

I use Lacto free cream.

Elmlea plant based double cream would work fine

A friend very kindly used lacto free milk/cream for me (I’ve never tolerated milk or cream) - I had the same reaction as if it was dairy! However I have no issues with plant based alternatives!

Yes, I've used this to make these before for my son who is allergic to milk. Works fine.

It truly is! I came across it first as a dessert, called pommes invisibles; it is incredible. I’ve also made it with pears which was even better.

Had the savoury one at christmas with parsnips and sweet potato. It’s such a versatile recipe can highly recommend it.

My daughter's work prefers flora vegan cream to elmlea, she is a chef.

Hassleback potatoes would be nice though with some rosemary for seasoning.

Oatly Creamy Oat works

Elmlea is the nicest dairy free cream I've found
