Yes, once it's been cooked you can freeze again.

CornishTeaTime · 01/02/2025 12:58

I have googled but many links popping up are saying no

I personally would, once fully cooled, and then defrost and heat up thoroughly before eating. I wouldn't do it with anything meat-based though. It's probably contrary to official advice, but I'm happy with my (50 year old) approach to food safety and hygiene.

So I boiled frozen broccolli until tender added all other soupy bits stock, stilton, leek, onion and cream. Whizzed up now cooling down. Wanted to batch it up, usually use fresh broccilli and do this but thought I'd try frozen. Now Im wondering if I can freeze!

I'm very wary about this sort of thing, but even I would freeze the soup without a second thought.
It's because it's been cooked in between the freezing s - it will be fine.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/02/2025 13:12

Yes. It will be fine.

BigDahliaFan · 01/02/2025 13:12

It wouldn’t even occur to me not to re freeze it.

oharibo · 01/02/2025 13:16

Was the frozen broccoli raw? If so then yes you can refreeze.

If the frozen broccoli was cooked then you can't refreeze.

Only freeze once in each state so once raw and once cooked if that makes sense?

Scentsitive · 01/02/2025 13:18

Yes it's absolutely fine.

You can still do it. It's a potential issue with very slight quality/texture changes, it's not a safety issue. Certainly not with veg.

marylou25 · 01/02/2025 15:00

You can and even if the brocolli had been cooked before I'd still refreeze it, brocolli is not the same risk as say chicken or any meat dish. More of a quality issue than a safety issue if any!

CornishTeaTime · 01/02/2025 17:53

Thank everyone will freeze

OP posts:
murasaki · 01/02/2025 18:08

Absolutely, I've done it loads of times and am clearly not dead!

BeaAndBen · 01/02/2025 18:11

Vegetables are fine to be frozen and refrozen. It's only a quality issue, but if it's been whizzed up as soup the texture won't matter. Vegan recipes are very handy that way.

Animal products are a different kettle of fish (appalling pun intended. Sorry, not sorry)
