What desert for Indian food themed dinner party?

I’ve decided to do a “choose your own adventure” Indian style curry to cover all dietary preferences for an upcoming dinner party. So I will make a curry sauce with rice and naans for the table and then I will do some chicken skewers, lamb skewers, paneer, cauliflower and chickpeas and everyone can just assemble their own as they see fit.

For starters I will do some samosas and pappadams and bits.

What should we have for dessert???

Mango sorbet

Gajar ka Halwa

Kulfi is easy to make in advance, just take it out of the freezer a bit earlier as it can be rock hard straight out of the freezer.

Omg you have to do ras malai!!

Truetoself · 21/01/2025 22:10

No idea about dessert but instrigued to knownmore about your menu. Do you have a recipe for the cuery sauce and how will you cook them?

rasmali. Or warm gulab jamun served with a side dollop of vanilla ice cream.

Pistachio and Rose Kheer and Gulab Jamun and Barfi.
Are you going to do bahji, samosas, pakora etc.?

The mango sorbet is perfect for vegans. I am an omnivore who would happily choose it after your delicious Indian feast. I also think kulfi is a popular choice with those of us who eat dairy. I would manage a bite if you had it!

The other choices are all somewhat Marmite IMO. I love kheer, like gajar ka halwa and would skip the others whereas I am sure other people would choose differently. That’s my point. Also perhaps the sorbet is the only vegan suggestion you have so far?

Great menu, OP

I wouldn’t try to do a specifically Indian dessert personally especially as lots involve deep frying.

I would probably do something mango or cardamom or rose water flavoured/scented to be in keeping

this looks good

so does this

Gulab jamon - just get it in the tin from your local Asian grocery or order on Amazon.

Sheer khurma is absolutely delicious when cooked well.
