Greek feast

Hi all,

I’m hosting 7 friends in a few weeks, and I always do a ‘theme’ (I’ve previously done tapas, Italian etc). This time it’s Greek!

I’m thinking….

Slow roast Greek lamb (served shredded in a large dish, with a touch of pomegranate mollases stirred through just before serving, not strictly Greek but game changing!)

Lemon and garlic Greek potatoes (might deep fry these before serving for extra crispiness!)

Greek salad

Loaded Greek Dipping Oil

Homemade Hummus & Tzatsiki

Toasted pitta wedges

Is there anything missing? Anything you’d leave out/add?

TIA

Could you do whipped feta with honey as a dip, too?

@KnickerFolder I'm in an Uber on my way to you. Staying for a week and I'll be paying good money for my board and keep. Happy to sleep on the floor for in a corner of the kitchen. Would you please be my mum? Or sister? Or jail keeper? I absolutely totally love all your recipes suggestions and a lot of these I wasn't at all familiar with.
OP this is an amazing thread, I don't have any new suggestions I'm afraid. Your dinner will be superb!
I'm taking lots for f screenshots to google recipes at the weekend.

Me too! Smile

Thanks to the poster who suggested Felicity Cloake for spanakopita. I really reckon her recipes and never once had a dud.

Love all these suggestions.

I’m going to make that baklava cake on Saturday 😋

I’m not Greek but I lived in Greece for a year as a teenager, and I had a Greek Aussie boyfriend in my twenties and learnt all his family favourites from him in exchange for my DGM’s Yorkshire pudding recipe and my other DGM’s hachis parmentier 😂

I have a tiny London kitchen crammed floor to ceiling with cooking equipment and you’d take up the entire floor, @Branster 😂 I do have a dining room with a big table though. Actually, I’m having a dinner party next week, you’ve inspired me to make Greek food, OP! I may throw in a special “Greek” pudding in honour of my teenage Greek friend who was very excited for me to try his mother’s signature dish that she always served at dinner parties and on special occasions. It was Eton Mess 😂 TBF, her version was sprinkled with flaked almonds.

Retsina is a context drink for me, it's lovely on a sunny day in Greece, but i can't get on with it back home.

I was going to say exactly this. Tastes lovely and refreshing in the sun in Greece. Tastes like pine toilet cleaner when you get back home!

Can I come?

Someone to help wash up,😂 DH is very keen on cooking up a Greek feast and he does an amazing job, but OMG every pot and pan is used!

Olives! You can't do a Greek mezze without olives.

I also love baba ganoush, which you can also make ahead.

Delicious but not Greek 😉

Big dish of Tzatiki is easy and tasty. Figs are nice for dessert if you can get hold of some but I think the orange cake would go down well.

In crete, I found a cook book and I make Cretian aubergines from it.

Slice aubergines long ways. Shallow fry. Leave to cool. In the mean time make a basic tomato sauce, lots of oregano and garlic. I always add the aubergines ends into this sauce

Once collected enough to handle place sticks of feta in the aubergines slices and roll them up. Place in an oven proof dish and pour over the sauce. Crumble any leftover feta on top. Bake.

It's been on every single Greek mezze I've ever had! And that's a lot. It has a different name in Greek - melitzanosalata which just means aubergine salad - but most people know it as baba ganoush.

It is Greek. In Greek its called 'Aubergine Salad'.

Lots of Greek and Turkish recipes are the same.
