Meatball subs, really good sauce?

Having a movie night at the weekend and meatball subs and curly fries have been requested. Not at all healthy I know but it's been a rough couple of weeks. We recently discovered the perfect sub rolls for making them and my OH has been craving them again ever since. I usually make a sauce by roasting onions, peppers and tomatoes with garlic and chilli and then blending it up with some red pesto but fancy trying a different one. Does anyone else make these and have a delicious sauce they could recommend? The easier the better, I'd even be open to buying a jar if I knew it'd be tasty.

I would always have marinara with a meatball sub. Very cooked down and thick.

@SuperLoudPoppingAction can you recommend a good recipe?

This! Cheap and delicious. I use the Metro rolls from Aldi to do my meatball subs 🙂

I used to make a really simple sauce for meatballs.

Add a good olive oil to saucepan and heat gently

Add some chopped garlic / 1-3 cloves depending on how you like it. Gently fry so it doesn't catch.

Add a tspn of paprika and another of smoked paprika. 1/2 tspn Cayenne pepper if you want a spicy sauce. Stir into garlic and fry for a few seconds.

Add a carton of passata

Add a dash of lemon juice and salt and black pepper to taste.

Cook for about 10 mins.
You can add herbs such as basil or oregano.

This is also nice as a pizza base 😊

I clicked, assuming that 'meat ball subs' meant you were asking for a substitute to meatballs in a recipe- possibly veggie/GF or some other substitute! 😆

I can't help with the meatball thing, but for curly fries, I'd just buy frozen ones and oven bake or airfry.
