What did you use your warming drawer for this Christmas?

First Christmas with our new kitchen this year - big meal on 28th due to family plans. Can’t get to grips with warming drawer really - nothing comes out particularly warm? Ie plates lukewarm even on max, things that went in piping hot are no longer so… I thought that was the point?

Need some inspiration to motivate me to figure it out, what ingenius uses did yours fulfil this year?

This is probably a daft question, but are you sure it's a warming drawer? I bought my range master thinking it had a warming drawer, turns out its just a storage drawer.

We've got a neff warning drawer, plates come out very warm on medium. If I leave stuff in there on hot it stays hot.

I cannot be the only person who uses it to store baking pans and cooling racks??

We have a smeg range but what I thought was a warming drawer is just storage, there's no temperature knob for it. So I put plates in the microwave for a few mins.

I'd love a warming drawer.
A rather posh extended family member has a whole warming cabinet, wood, ornate, on wheels with serving space on top. I haven't seen it often so can't remember specifics, but it is decades old and I have always loved it. I think I need to engineer an invite in the new year to check it out properly 😆

Hostess trolley. I borrowed one one Christmas. It kept food hot but I couldn't shake off the 70s housewife vibes.

Hostess trolley, that's it. It's. It's not something I would actively want for my house and I think it would stick out a bit in a standard modern suburban semi! But fits right in in their country pile. And the 70s housewife vibe has a lot to answer for, but if they managed to get Christmas dinner on the table hot...

I have one of those tabletop bain marie units, although no water in it! It just heats electrically, 2 largish compartments and 2 smaller, very handy for keeping things hot.

Anyway I thought those warming drawers were more for proofing bread? Maybe I'm wrong but I'd love one for that purpose.

😁 it’s definitely a warming drawer. Chose it myself and it has buttons and lights and get a bit warm.

I use mine for keeping a takeaway warm while I gather the family! Classy!

I also use it when making chapattis or pancakes - I make 2-3 and then transfer them to the warming drawer until I have finished making the whole stack. Keeps them warm but they don’t dry out

onefootinfrontoftheotherbabe · 29/12/2024 01:12

We use ours daily for warming plates and occasionally for keeping food warm and drying stuff
