My DCs favourite meal at the moment is very simple - it’s macaroni pasta with chopped tinned tomatoes, sweetcorn and Italian herbs. Mixed together with a generous sprinkling of cheese on top.

They also like making their own pizzas

Dd is a fussy bugger (well she has arfid) but we have beennworking hard on "safe" foods.

Her current faves are...

Pasta bolognase- hone made won't eat a jar sauce. Make it with chopped bell peppers, onions, sweetcorn, fresh cherry plum tomatoes and 2 tins of tinned chopped Tom's.

She demolished shredded chicken in a chicken tonight Spanish sauce last night and asked to take the leftovers to school today in her sho flask

Roast dinner

Gammon

She is getting there with rice, so will have chow main sauce with a but of safe meat.

I've been struggling a bit lately so have been needing to serve things that don't take much effort (one child is vegetarian so most recipes are vegetarian)
Green lentil bolognaise (I just keep the sauce simple and use jars of passata, garlic, oregano, tomato puree and salt and pepper), because it is tins of green lentils it just takes the time the pasta takes to cook.
Spicy cod and butter bean cassoulet (again super simple one pan, passata, garlic, chilli, tins of butter beans, red peppers and corguettes then add cod to cook once vegetarian portion served up)
Falafels with flat breads and salad
Chick pea curry (you could use a ready made paste then just add passata, veg, coconut milk and serve with rice)
Cheese toasties and lentil soup
Pesto pasta
Baked potato
I haven't made this for a while bit there is a sweet potato(or butternut squash) and black bean Chipotle stew with dumplings on BBC good food that is really tasty and loved by all.

You should be very proud of that list. I am in my 40's and have ARFID and could only dream of eating that well!

You should be very proud of that list. I am in my 40's and have ARFID and could only dream of eating that well!

It has been a very long hard slog.

From 2.5 to around 9 she would pretty much only eat sausages and chicken nuggets. If you tried to give her veg or fruit peoplenwould think inwas trying to kill her. The nearest she got to veg was ketchup!

Her arfid is related more to well meaning doctors who were trying to establish triggers for her hyper immunity reactions and would associate restricting food with them making her "sick". Unfortunately I had a very switched on 2.5 yo who understood what sick meant and flatly refused to eat anything for years.

I have made every mistake going before finally just giving up and letting her eat whatever made life easy. Over the years, as her comprehension has increased we have been able to rationalise with her. So chicken breast is just a chicken nugget without its coat on, gammon comes from the same place as sausages.

As we entered 2021 we made a pact that shebhad to try 1 new thing a week. Amd slowly she has learnt to trust that I am notnout to poison her and that there is no issue if she doesn't like something, and there is always safe food about.

I am by no means a miracle worker. I have just got very lucky I think.

Penne pasta in dolmio tomato and basil sauce, with chopped up smoked sausage in , macaroni is always a big hit in my house

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 17/12/2024 19:57

I've had some really good recipes from TikTok recently one being honey garlic chicken noodles and the other chicken bacon and mash potato

OhBling · 17/12/2024 23:00

Both mine like chorizo, aubergine and tomato pasta sauce. I add chilli for DS but not DD. Top with feta cheese.

Steak with chips/wedges and veggies (or salad for the less fussy members of the family).

Baked chicken pieces cooked with rice mixed with veg.

This week's menu:

  • Chicken nuggets & chips ( served with peas which were ignored)
  • Sausage & mash with loads of broccoli
  • five bean chilli (BBC good food recipe)
  • chicken, sweet potato & spinach curry (originally BBC good food I think but we've made it so many times I can't remember)
  • salmon, probably with some sort of ginger, soy & honey sauce but might be something else, with tenderstem broccoli & green beans and noodles

We have an almost 2 year old and a 5 year old. Dinners are not the most adventurous at this age, but they get eaten.

Recent dinners, we’ve had jacket potatoes with salad and a choice of 2 fillings, cheese and tuna mayo. The kids like dinners where they can sort of build it up themselves. I always put things like olives, cucumber, peppers & a bit of cheese in a bowl so they can help themselves.

Spaghetti and meatballs. I make the sauce myself (hidden veg!) served with broccoli and some cheese.

Sausage and mash with peas and corn on the cob.

Tonight is macaroni cheese with broccoli on the side. (I add leeks to it too, tastes lovely with the cheese)

Ground beef and veg tacos and rice for tomorrows dinner

Homemade pizzas on Friday.

Edit: I basically add cheese to everything😆

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 18/12/2024 09:01
