I bought a sour cream and chives dip that has free range eggs in it. Will these be pasteurised. Wondering whether to eat it or not? Any advice be much appreciated, thanks Elaine

Why wouldn’t you?!?

Chewbecca · 16/12/2024 17:29

Why on earth not,?

WeeOrcadian · 16/12/2024 17:32

Why wouldn't you? What makes you think it's unsafe to eat?

So many questions here

MummyDummyNow · 16/12/2024 17:34

Are we missing some important information here like the Best Before date being a month ago...?

tarheelbaby · 16/12/2024 17:40

Everything will have been thoroughly cooked so it is probably safe if it is in date.

My midwife admitted to me that pretty much anything from major supermarkets, probably even sushi and even soft cheeses like brie, was safe to eat since they have such high standards. Everything there is super clean, produced in a super clean environment, sealed in packets and transported under the right conditions.

So no matter the reason for your sensitivity, that dip and almost anything else in a British supermarket is probably ok.

Egg yolk powder. Not fresh eggs.

But why would you be worrying about pasteurised or not? - did you forget to type something when you forgot your reading glasses?

Laine49 · 16/12/2024 17:47

Sorry I am new to here. I am just not sure about the pasteurised part of eggs and mayonnaise. So there are no issues with any ingredients on this? That’s what I am asking, thanks Elaine

You should probably have mentioned that you’re pregnant in the first post, it would have made a lot more sense! 😂

You don't need to be an arse about it.
I'd imagine it's fine to eat in pregnancy OP, but I know how worrying this time can be. When I had situations like this I would like think, "is the anxiety about this worth me eating it?"

Laine49 · 17/12/2024 13:35

Thank you to all the people who were kind and respectful to my post and who realised that as a mums.net page that I may be wondering about pasteurised stuff because of early pregnancy. I thought this page was about support and understanding of people who may be anxious about stuff. I appreciate the ones who answered the questions I was asking 🙏

Nobody was being mean, just not everyone who posts here is pregnant - or psychic

OhBling · 17/12/2024 14:16

All eggs in this country are pasteurised so yes, it's totally fine to eat while pregnant.

dementedpixie · 17/12/2024 14:19

@Laine49 if you'd asked in the pregnancy topic we would have known why you had concerns. As you posted in food/recipes without saying you were pregnant no one knew why you were wondering if the egg was pasteurised.

And yes, the dip will be fine to eat

This isn't true
The raw eggs that you buy aren't pasteurised
The packaging would have specified if unpasteurised ingredients were used

OhBling · 17/12/2024 14:24

@dementedpixie apologies, I meant they're vaccinated against salmonella. The lion mark thing and are considered safe for pregnant women. You're totally right - that' snot pasteurisation!

Laine49 · 17/12/2024 14:25

Well that was a bit cheeky to be honest!!

I lived off this and Pringles when I was pregnant!

Laine49 · 17/12/2024 15:37

Yeah I am trying to eat healthy but I do love chilli heatwave Doritos and sour cream and chive dip. Nothing else does the trick 😋

Not everyone here is pregnant or even wants kids or they're men. There is a pregnancy topic though which would be able to answer any questions you have.
