If you enjoy Campo Viejo Rioja 🍷 please can I ask for your help

Hi! I know nothing about wine, wondering if someone could guide me please.

My husbands “daily” wine is Campo Viejo Rioja Tempranillo, I wanted to get him some nice red wine to enjoy for christmas.

Could someone recommend me a wine that he is likely to enjoy if he likes this kind of taste? Looking to spend up to £50, or a couple of ~£25 bottles?

Is it worth going to a local wine merchant and asking this - even a majestic or something similar might have stuff they can suggest? Theres loads of good Riojas available at the supermarkets, but a wine merchant might have something a bit different? Otherwise, join the wine society for £40, which comes with a £20 voucher and let him choose his own?

Have a look in Laithwaites, I bought their Christmas Reds and they are delicious they also have a selection of 6 for £50 which I bought and are also delish

I would look at buying a Rioja reserva. If there’s a Majestic nearby they should have a good selection. Vina Ardanza is a lovely Rioja and majestic usually have some in stock.

I definitely think it’s worth popping into a wine merchant and having a chat with them as to what they recommend.
