I'm going off piste with the base and using biscuit cake

So we need a fab toffee/caramel layer, any suggestions for a good recipe?

Carnation caramel condensed milk?

I used to have an amazing recipe for the caramel/toffee but I lost it 😭. It had lots of butter and sugar, something else maybe? Then you’d boil it gently, stirring all the time. If you forgot to stir, it would get gorgeous little black flecks in it and would have a most delicious taste, better than if you did it ‘properly’.

This one is my favourite

Don't fancy the condensed milk one, sorry

I'll look at the other one, thanks

It's the traditional way to do it for Millionaires so I think you'll find condensed milk in almost all the recipes.

KatyMac · 08/12/2024 15:05

Yes that's what I'm finding with my Google

Ideally I wanted a lower dairy version I found this one

Why do you want a lower dairy recipe? Surely a tin of condensed milk is better than a block of UPF vegan marge?

Dammit I now have a craving for millionaires shortbread.

SnowySnowson · 08/12/2024 15:18

This is a vegan recipe - so no dairy - but it's quite hard to find the vegan condensed milk (I speak from experience!). Also, the taste isn't quite as good as the regular recipe.

Oh god yes

But I'll use butter and no condensed milk half the dairy!

& the biscuit cake is a game changer instead of shortbread

I only got enough condensed milk for the crispie cakes, I have evap for fudge and spare evaporated if I can find a caramel/toffee that uses that

God I love Christmas!!

I stress bake!

So what was the recipe you went with? And did it set?

The vegan one but with butter (picture posted at 15:05)

It is lush!!

It set enough that you have to gently bite it, and it makes strings if you break and pull
