What kind of food do you like?

I recommend James Oliver's Ministry of Food if you're really new to cooking.

Gousto or Hello Fresh are good too if you want to learn to cook. You could choose a box with 3 simple meals to start with.

Look for dishes with elements that are transferable to other dishes.
A bolognaise, a chilli, a cottage pie.
Once you've done mash for a cottage pie think about other dishes with mash, fish cakes, fish pie or sausage and mash with onion gravy.
Then you could do toad in the hole, pancakes and fritters.
Then look at chicken, chicken stir fry with noodles, a chicken curry and a chicken tray bake.

Do you have a slow cooker?

Cheats Peking Duck: Coat duck with hoisin sauce, wedge into slow cooker and cook on high for 3.5 hours. Put duck in crazy hot oven (gas mk 8) for half an hour ~ done

Edited to say a chicken should also work.

Who needs a takeaway when you can get all the Peking style flavours with this Crispy Slow Cooker Duck recipe. Easy, succulent and delicious!

I wouldnt bother with the curries in that book, they were so awful and watery, thought it was me but found loads of complaints on line .

I found Delia's cookery course really good, taught me how to cook roast potatoes and gravy.
My DC both love the Sorted cooking channel, Sorted also produce a great App called Sidekick for meal planning and recipes. They have step by step guides including timing etc, shopping lists to save money
