I didn't know freeze dried strawberries existed, now I think they're amazing.

I just made overnight buckwheat groats (like overnight oats) and I mixed in freeze dried strawberries. I was a bit dubious because quite often strawberries loose a lot of flavour by being messed with, and I suspect some start by having less flavour because of the growing method, but the strawberry hit from this is great.

I'm now thinking of all the things I could make, muffins might be next.

They're the best! I'm not much of a dried fruit person, but these... 😍

Last valentines I made chocolate mini heart biscuits, then dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled bashed up freeze dried strawberries over the top 😋 So good I forgot I didn't have a partner to celebrate with 😂

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/12/2024 11:08

Those biscuits sound amazing.

Perhaps you could make a double batch next Valentine's day and hand them out to likely looking potential partners. Grin Like fishing but with cute biscuits instead of worms.

The problem with that is that freeze dried strawberry cookies are worth more than a date.

If I were @LittleRedRidingHoody I’d rather stay single and eat the cookies myself

LittleRedRidingHoody · 02/12/2024 11:25

I mean, all I'll say is cookies have never caused me heartbreak 😂

hideawayforever · 02/12/2024 11:56

Where do you buy the freeze dried strawberries from....I want them

UtterlyOtterly · 02/12/2024 12:02

Freeze dried strawberries are great, but not quite as great as freeze dried raspberries imo. They are another taste level altogether.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/12/2024 12:41

I bought mine from here because I'm in the EU, but I'm sure there are UK suppliers too if that's where you are. https://www.koro.com/ie/dried-fruit

I like fresh strawberries more than I like fresh raspberries @UtterlyOtterly but I will definitely give raspberries a try with my next order.

Ironically, because my diabetes has gone haywire recently, cookies could well cause me heartbreak. But at least strawberries are well tolerated, the overnight buckwheat groats spiked me but I used half a vanilla yoghurt with it so it could also have been that.

I think I might go into the freeze-dried fruit arena...ArchersShock

NetDesMamans1 · 02/12/2024 13:02

HOW MUCH!!! The link that I put up has raspberries at €28 for 350g and strawberries are €23.50 for 350g. Because they are dried, 350g is actually a huge volume of strawberries. I must do a bit of googling and calculation and see what the equivalent weight would be if the same number of strawberries were fresh.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

I made a double layer white chocolate cake once with these as a topping. Totally amazing.

Glittertwins · 02/12/2024 13:22

I suspect souschef will sell them online.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/12/2024 14:09

Right, so according to Google it takes 1kg of fresh strawberries to make 100g of freeze-dried. At the moment strawberries are out of season so they are expensive, they are €13 per kg sold in 300g punnets in my local supermarket but would be much cheaper in the summer. So 350g of freeze-dried strawberries cost me €23.50 and the equivalent of fresh would be 3.5kg which would be €45. So definitely a cost effective way to have out of season fruit.

I love the fact that you calculated this! You got there before me, haha.

Freeze dried fruit makes delicious frosting! Just pop in a blender until it turns to powder, sieve (optional), and add to buttercream frosting. I love freeze-dried raspberry frosting.

RedRiverShore5 · 03/12/2024 07:57

I have bought them from Amazon for about £8-£9 a bag, they have various fruits
