OXO chefs mandoline 2.0?

I bought one of these today in the hopes of making beautifully julienned coleslaws etc. But it’s so disappointing! I tried with apple and carrot and couldn’t get it to cut right through on most of the slices so basically got perforated slices. Then the hand protector. I remember the one my mum had in the 80s had prongs to grip the vegetables but this one doesn’t so have to push quite hard to keep it in place. What am I doing wrong? I’ve tried looking for you tube videos but no one is using the julienne bit.

I have this one and use it all the time. The reviews for the OXO one are mixed, so it may not be you.

Thanks for your response. I will persevere- will try peeling the apple as didn’t the first time. Maybe it jammed the blades. I have to make this work!

I also have a Benriner one and it works fine julienning carrots and apples. For smaller things like ginger I don’t tend to find the hand guard that useful and I prefer a cut proof glove, but the guard on mine has been find for apples and carrots.

I just got one from ProCook and it's a game changer. But I managed to slice my finger first time and it's still a pain as I sliced off the skin on the knuckle of my baby finger. I will be more careful inf uture!

I can’t recommend cut proof gloves enough! They’re not expensive and reduce the injury risk so much.
