All iron supplements (including spatone) constipate me to an extend. But without them, I’m tired! Help!

I have been taking iron supplements on and off for about 10 years. This summer I decided to just stop as they mess with my gut and make me a little constipated (I would still “go”, but my stools often hard).

Eventually, though, I became so tired I needed a nap in the daytime (not an option!).

So I decided to try something gentle like spatone, but even that constipates me (a little).

Any advice? I think I’m someone who doesn’t absorb iron from food very well (if that’s a thing!).

Gah! Typo on the title. To an “extent”! Not extend!

Have you tried gentle iron? Works better for me.

You would be benefit from why your iron levels are low.
When was the last time this was checked?

Have you tried Iron Bisglycinate? It's the only one that doesn't constipate me at all.

Floradix or unsulphered molasses might be worth a try.

Have you tried the Better You mouth spray? It is a lower mg but you absorb all of it. I use it and feel less tired but I also use their Vit B12 spray.

My method which seems to result in less gut trouble:
Take a higher-strength tablet every other day rather than every day.
Take it on an empty stomach (at least 5hrs since last eating) with a small glass of orange juice and eat nothing for an hour afterwards

You need to check with your Dr that you don't have an iron absorption issue such as pernicious anemia - if you do then they can arrange B12 injections monthly to get you back to better levels. If not taking biglycerate every other day will help. If you aren't vegan or vegetarian it is normal to get this from meat and eggs, which is why it suggests a problem that needs checking if you are consistently low.
