Just that really - My DD loves welsh cakes, I've just watched Marcus make them on Masterchef Professionals. She's home for Christmas with vegan boyfriend so love to give them a shot!!

You want to use vegan butter in a wrapper such as flora plant butter

Block of Stork (not the tub which isn't vegan). It has more flavour than other plant spreads for cooking.

Trex is substitute for lard.

Trex is good for pastry, so should be fine for Welsh cakes.

Tesco's baking block is also vegan. If using Trex (which is fab for roast potatoes btw), you need to use less than other fats - check the back

What great recommendations - thank you!!

I used to make all my own pastry before DH got an intolerance to dairy.
Please check the ingredients, but I believe justrol puff and shortcrust pastry are vegan (they are certainly dairy free). So I don't make pastry now (well, DS might ask for one set of mince pies with butter, but since he eats 90% of the mince pies in thus house, that probably won't upset DH too much)

that sounds promising @DoublePeonies
