Meals without chicken

I'll try and keep it short! Live alone and I like to batch cook and freeze in portions, stuff like cottage pie etc
Think British comfort food for my style of cooking Grin

Food poisoning means I'm totally off chicken and I'm running out of ideas
I don't eat lamb or steak (just don't like them)
Happy to eat veggie stuff, sausage and beef mince
Have a slow cooker and air fryer, lots of freezer space and batch cook containers

Give me your ideas!

This is pretty tasty.

It's also good because you can freeze the meatballs and sauce bit (or even just the sauce bit) and then you just have to make some mash.

I quite often buy the meatballs for it. And I make a massive batch of the sauce because it's a bit faffy but quite tasty.

Oh that looks great!

When I say off chicken, I've had to bin all my batch cooked meals with it and nearly threw up in the meat aisle at the supermarket BlushGrin

Haven't had meatballs in ages

Sausage and lentil casserole- the Hairy Bikers one is good

Mince - Bolognese, chilli, keema although none of these is british. Burgers, meatballs

Short rib and stout casserole if you will eat bone in beef. Oxtail stew also

Pearl barley stew with veg (leeks especially good) and bacon bits

Soups - my regular ones are minestrone, spinach, pea & ham, leek & potato, spiced butternut, spiced carrot

Curries - loads of options, veg based or with paneer.

Pulled pork - good base for lots of meals

buffyspikefaith · 09/11/2024 22:35

Oh pearl barley I forgot about!
I made a lovely red lentil and roasted veg soup so I have red lentils to use

They all sound amazing, I'm fine with spice it's more I don't really cook.. complicated stuff

I've never eaten paneer but I love halloumi or anything else so will definitely give that a try

Casseroles made with pork tenderloin - lots of recipes out there, including pork and apples, pork paprika, goulash etc ?
Fish pie

https://www.noracooks.com/red-lentil-dahl/ this is a nice red lentil dal. If you don’t need it vegan, add a bit of butter for extra richness & some yoghurt on the side. Perfect batch cook as it’s a meal in a bowl.

This 30-minute vegan lentil dahl recipe is made in one pot using budget-friendly ingredients. It’s a hearty, restaurant-quality meal, but is secretly quick and easy!

I recommend the RecipeTinEats website- lots of tasty, pretty simple recipes and lots suitable for batch cooking. You can search by keyword eg mince.

That looks delicious, straight on my list. I love anything you can scoop with naan Grin

I've probably made it sound like I'm really fussy but I'll try most stuff once

Fish pie

Chorizo in tomato sauce freezes well just reheat with pasta.

Beef stew and root vegetable freezes well.

Bacon lardons dry fried, strained, mix in crème fresh and a blob of Dulcelata cheese freezes well in portions then reheat and pour over penne pasta.

Belly pork casserole with cider and 2 sliced cooking apples, carrots, sliced potatoes and swede.

BBV Good Food has lots of batch cooking recipes. I can't remember if I've used any of them but I generally find their recipes easy to follow and turn out well.
