Chai latte

I've developed a love of chai lattes from Starbucks which are delicious but very expensive!
Can anyone recommend a quick and easy way to recreate at home? I have a notion that it should be as easy to make as hot chocolate with milk steamer but don't know where to start ...

The ONLY thing I've found that works is this powder... I use a spoon or so more than recommended. There's lots of 'authentic' ways to make Chai, I've tried them all and hate them all. I don't like authentic chai! I like Starbucks/this one 😂

I get mine in Sainsbury's - buy a few at a time (once you know you like them) as they sell out quickly and don't restock for a while.

** just to add, it tastes incredibly milky already, I've added steamed or frothed milk and it basically tastes the same 😛

Thank you very much! I'll give it a try

I have spiced chai teabags and I chuck a couple in a mug with some milk and microwave it for a minute or 2.
Once its done I let the teabags steep for a couple of minutes and then add tumeric honey.
No idea about the Starbucks ones but I enjoy mine

UnbeatenMum · 08/11/2024 18:22

I got some teabags from Lidl and I just make a milky tea and add a bit of honey. You can also make it with all milk too in a saucepan.

mitogoshigg · 08/11/2024 18:23

Easy way is the powder or spiced chai teabags and add milk but nothing is better than the real thing - i discovered that it freezes so I make a batch of proper Indian style chai with spices etc and free into mug sized portions

toastofthetown · 08/11/2024 21:29

Starbucks use a chai concentre to make their chai lattes so when you have the syrup it's just a case of mixing the concentrate with steamed milk. If you're willing to put in some effort then there's a lot of copycat recipes online. Or you can buy chai syrups and concentrates but it might take a few before you find one you like. I've never tried any though, so can't recommend any unfortunately.

Lidl did a plum chai at Christmas a few years back. That was very addictive.

This stuff is AMAZING

AmazingBouncingFerret · 08/11/2024 21:45

It’s literally just two flat 15ml scoops of drink me chai mixed with a tiny bit of hot water and then warm milk added whilst stirring continuously. A little dusting of cinnamon.
Official recipe. Grin

I saw that but couldn't really imagine what's like. Confused by the plum but!

That stuff is fantastic. I stocked up last year. Still got half a tub left. Will have to get some more

Igneococcus · 08/11/2024 22:03

I also love the Lidl plum one, best of the instant chai mixes in my opinion.

Xyz1234567 · 08/11/2024 22:14

If you like the Starbucks one, try Marks and Spencer Chai Latte powder. Just mix a few spoonfuls with hot milk. It's the nicest one I've tried.

Nelliemellie · 08/11/2024 22:53

If you like an unsweetened chai I found a brand in Tesco, Royal Chai sachets in box of 10.

ponygirlcurtis · 08/11/2024 23:22

The Drink Me chai latte powder is also v v nice sprinkled over porridge. 😋

(May now be planning a trip to Lidl tomorrow...)

dumpling123 · 15/11/2024 11:43

Thank you all for your recommendations. My can of drink me chai arrived in the post today and it's exactly what I've been looking for!

I have just gone to Lidl for the plum chai latte mix off the back of this thread today. Haven’t tried it yet, but will report back. 😂

You can get Chai Latte pods for Dolce Gusto machines. I'm addicted.

The gingerbread one is nice too

Just as an update in case anyone is interested! The Drink Me Chai is delicious!

Aldi (in Ireland) have started to stock Masala Chai teabags which are really lovely too. None of the sugar of the Drink Me Chair
