Hello, looking for side and topping inspiration for hot dogs - preferably vegetarian options too.

Toppings - I've done the usual salsa, picked onions, sauerkraut type ones.

Sides - I find the default options is fries/wedges or coleslaw/corn.

Much appreciated!

Coney Island Hot Dog Recipe » Homemade Heather (it references hot dog sauce- the recipe is further down if you scroll!)

My favourite, albeit one that can be quite messy to eat, is coleslaw, gherkins and mustard. I'm also quite partial to chilli cheese hotdogs. This website has got a list of many of the US regional variations https://www.hot-dog.org/culture/regional-hot-dogs. Some of them are truly bizarre (a FISH CAKE!??!)

Out of interest what veggie hotdogs do you use? The Sainsburys own-brand ones used to be fantastic but the last time I looked they'd stopped selling them.

Mainly for kiddies or adults too? Crispy smashed potatoes are always a hit here, as are mini corn cobs or a big Mexican street corn salad.

For kids, raw veggies (carrots, tomatoes, cucumber) is always a safe bet ~ though doesn't always get eaten!

This hot dog recipe is popular in our house https://realfood.tesco.com/recipes/veggie-chilli-dogs.html
We also like hot dogs with honey mustard or apple sauce.

Chilli dog

Bahn mi inspired: pickled veg, mayo, sriracha, pate (I usually skip the pate as I'm veggie but purists would argue you need it).

In New Mexico Sonoran dogs are popular.

I like onion rings on the side. Or elote is a nice way to prepare corn.

Chicago style - salted tomatoes, dill pickles, white onions (chopped up), pickled peppers, yellow mustard and sweet green relish.

Chicago style is my absolute favourite. It’s a ‘hot dog dragged through the garden’. I do (all raw) onions, carrots, gherkins, sometimes cucumber, Frenches yellow mustard plus loads of celery salt (essential!). Green American style relish if you can find it (I can’t).

God I fancy a hotdog now 🤤.

I love a chilli cheese dog with jalapenos, mustard and diced raw onion. Also a fan of Chicago style as above but for any hotdog I always add those crispy onions you get in a tub 🤤.

I did a hot dog night for teens a few months ago and they mainly all just had onions and ketchup! I also did cheese and jalapeno bites, curly fries, individual portioned nachos with all the toppings set out, coleslaw, corn on the cob and a salad (which went untouched 🤣)I really like the Dinos brand hotdogs and after searching relentlessly I found the best rolls for them in Morrisons bakery section.

Gilbert's beef hot dogs are really good

I was going to suggest this too! My sil introduced us to these and they are amazing.

The other option would be a chilli, either a meat one or make it a black bean one then both the veggies and non veggies can have it. Grated cheese on top with sour cream☺️
