I’ve bought baking stuff but I know I used to use utterly butterly but it’s got v expensive ?

I ideally would use real softened butter but it’s only for a kids party (still want them to be nice)

thank you 🧁🍰

We always used the massive tubs of Flora when I was a kid and I can't remember a single child complaining about their cupcakes/fairy cakes and that was in the days when icing was just icing sugar and water drizzled over the top, not the fancy mountain of buttercream that ends up on top of them now.

Baking marg makes the best cakes!

Spagettifunction · 20/10/2024 17:27

I’m actually just using icing sugar and sprinkles .. old school

You could use real butter from the fridge and grate it. It softens very quickly if grated.

Honestly use ‘best for baking’ and save the proper butter for butter cream.

it’s also better for pastry.

Stork or the Lidl equivalent makes the best cakes. Butter is so overrated

doodleschnoodle · 20/10/2024 17:32

Aldi equivalent of Stork always works fine for me!

dementedpixie · 20/10/2024 17:34

Own brand 'best for baking' spread is what I usually use. I use real butter for butttercream

RaspberryRipple2 · 20/10/2024 17:38

I always use stork for all cakes and I’ve seen before that so does Mary Berry - it’s better than butter for cakes. Never use it for buttercream though.

We use butter in everything in this house.
Except for sponge cake. I have a tub of cheapest margarine in the fridge just for making sponge!

I only use butter. I'm trying to cut down on our UPFs because they badly affect ds's ADHD. It's a shame butter is expensive!

Thanks all !!!
