Fondue - Vegan Cheese?

Zebedee999 · 19/10/2024 16:34

I'm thinking of laying on a fondue this Christmas as a treat. I have all the gear but "just" need the suitable cheese.

Out of our large group one person is a vegan which means the range of cheese is limited.

Can anyone recommend a vegan cheese SUITABLE FOR FONDUE that I can buy ready made?

Many thanks.

Urgh yuck vegan cheese fondue will be pointless and all because one person is vegan

The Vegan can have a little separate pot of melted vegan cheese of their own

And everyone else can tuck into a delicious normal cheese fondue

Check out la fauxmagerie, I think they do something suitable for vegan fondue. It's not cheese but what they sell is delicious.

I agree. Their cheese is fabulous.

Well thanks all for the advice. It's gonna go down like a lead balloon if I do a fondue that doesn't cater for the vegan to be a part of it but I really want to do it.
When I did it abroad once at a restaurant we had a normal fondue with a separate vegan one. I might have to try that.

Thanks to those who suggested vegan "cheese" to try, I will look into them.

Of course do a separate one for the vegan

That's a no brainier

They just need a bowl of melted vegan cheese not a whole separate fondue set just for themselves

I have done baked Camembert with Violife vegan version and my dd said it was delicious. I should think that would be a good alternative for the vegan guest, and do a normal fondue for the others. I baked it in foil with olive oil, garlic and rosemary on top with a sprinkle of salt flakes.
I've not tried the shamembert one mentioned, but looking at it, it looks like that would be even better as it has a rind.

How did you get on?

Thinking of getting a fondue so searched for it and your thread popped up and I am now intrigued for the outcome.

🤢🤮 my advice just don’t do it! For one person aswell just no!

lasagnelle · 10/11/2024 19:44

In all honesty I wouldn't. I did a vegan christmas last year and NONE of the cheeses tasted good. I don't know how they'd melt. They certainly smelt like cheese though.

sprigatito · 10/11/2024 19:47

Vegan cheese is the devil's own smegma. If they're vegan, they can't have fondue. Just give them something else to munch on instead.

It's also a bit odd imo having a vegan round and then eating as much cheese as you can where the cheese is the star of the show

Getting excited over fondue and then getting vegan "cheese" might just break my heart!

One person in a large group? Do a separate little vcheese dish for them and let the rest enjoy themselves.

Lots of people centre cheese at Christmas though, it's a luxury to eat as much good cheese as you want and people look forward to it. It's daft to say that the rest of the group can't have fondue because one person has made a choice to avoid cheese. Presumably the vegan is an adult and comfortable with their own choices, so they can eat something vegan and let everyone else enjoy their cheese.

I had a vegan fondue with them in Europe last year and we really enjoyed it, hence thinking we could repeat with a larger group.

Not very exciting! As others suggested, I'm doing an ordinary fondue for everyone. The vegans will have Shamembert separately.
