HELP WITH SOURDOUGH STARTER

i feel like my sourdough starter isn’t working. I’m a week in and it’s watery and not rising. On day 2 or 3 it doubled and looked exactly how you’d expect but never again since! Where have I done wrong!?

It takes time and a warm place. Mine only really got going after a couple of weeks and depending on how cold your house is, you may need to find a warmer place.

As @karmakameleon says, it might just need to be a bit warmer - it's definitely starting to ferment as it's got lovely bubbles in! The other thing that helps - and I have no idea why (I never was any good at physics) - is for it to be in a container where the airspace over the top of the starter isn't too big...you can always trade up when you need to, but keep it snug to start with.

I started my starter in March 2020 at start of lockdown. The recipe said it would be ready in 7 days but mine took 14 days to be ready. Just keep refreshing it twice a day and you'll get there.

Thanks all! im keeping it in the airing cupboard as of yesterday! I’m a bit more hopeful now 😅

@hollyblueivy hey! Yes it did take a little while to get going but about 18 days in she started doubling

I made my first loaf and it was a big success
