I have been very busy baking this week (very amateur baker) as ds had an 18th birthday, school had a pta event that I made cupcakes for and my mum had her 80th birthday. My mums cake was the most complicated with an 3 tone cake from a Tesco magazine. Anyone else like making cakes?

Ds's cake was a bit of a car crash as one layer fell apart and then the icing was a bit soft and started oozing down the outside. Tasted good though. The icing in the cupcakes wasn't traditional buttercream but made using a bechamel type mix with flour, sugar and milk which cools before adding butter

They look great. What equipment do you use for the icing please? I’m ok at the baking but need to up my game for icing / decoration, but don’t know where to start.

Dh bought me a set with nozzles, cake turntable, etc and I've used mainly the bigger nozzles out of it. Also bought a couple of others and a roll of disposable piping bags. I used the plastic smoothing tools from the set for the side of the cake too.
