Birthday cake vegetable and fruit

As title says I’d like to make a birthday cake made with vegetables and fruit mostly, plus eggs, flour etc if needed. I think I could get away with a minimal amount of sugar if need be. Does anyone have any recipes or ideas please?

For a 1 year old’s birthday. The 1 year old isn’t mine for those of you who may know me from other boards!

Don't you like the baby?

Just make a lovely carrot cake that uses minimal sugar.

For an adult I would have suggested a courgette & lime cake...

But a child? It has to be chocolate!

You could make a Spanish omelette. Or a cake.

Stichintime · 06/10/2024 00:37

Why don't you make a fresh cream and strawberry victoria sponge, with sugar free strawberry jam? I think that's more likely to be eaten and enjoyed.

Sounds disgusting

The purpose of cake is to have sugar. If I wanted to eat fruit & vegetables I’d eat fruit & vegetables not a cake abomination.

Babies usually like a bit of proper cake. They don’t have to eat a massive piece.

I'm not sure I understand the request? Is this due to allergies? Do you want a 'normal' cake but one that uses veg/fruit? I've made beetroot cake, carrot cake, and a chocolate courgette cake before.

If you are wanting mainly fruit, what about fruit in jelly?
Or this Thai fruit/jelly cake with a layer of coconut jelly. https://hot-thai-kitchen.com/agar-agar-fruit-cake/

But why?

It's a small piece of cake. And fruit contain sugar too.
Anyway I would go for small banana muffins.

Watermelon cake? Lots of ideas if you Google, it's basically a cake-shaped cylinder of watermelon decorated with lots of brightly coloured fruits. Or for my pfb's first birthday, he had his own vegetable muffin topped with cream cheese and a candle (all the healthy stuff went out the window when the next two came along of course - normal cake for them!😂)

Why? A 1st birthday is the first real dessert. It’s the first sugar. It’s a milestone. Most children consume little of it anyway.

if there is a medical condition, I’m thinking whipped cream and strawberries. It could be done with no added sugar at all, but still artfully displayed in cake form for pictures and glorious smashing.

Are the parents 'clean eating' ?
OK for them to have ever enjoyed sweet treats but new ways of living for their dc...

DoreenonTill8 · 06/10/2024 03:47

And also what @ThunderSocks said, or has it to taste bad?

I love the baby, he’s my DNephew! My SIL would prefer less or zero sugar.

Try beetroot or sweet potato brownies. Both really nice and naturally sweet. Sorry haven't got a recipe butt just have a Google.
