Football pitch cake tips!

Hi :)

I'm attempting to make my son's birthday cake this week and I was just looking for any hints or tips to ensure it goes well! I'm good at the baking but rubbish at decorating. I've attached a picture of what I'm going for. Thanks in advance :)

This was my son's last year. I bought the little goals and men off Amazon for about £5 and used a writing icing tube for the lines. Chocolate footballs from home bargains. This is the easiest cake I've done and he was thrilled.
