Anyone watching Nadiya's Cook Once, Eat Twice?

Enjoying the programme so far. The granola looked lush but a lot of expensive ingredients to just use up some white bread.
The corn chowder looked so simple and cheap I was wondering how flavoursome it would actually be.

Anyone tried any of the recipes?

I haven't tried any of those programmes but I've bought 3 of her packet mixes and they were horrible! I am not a fussy person but none of them were nice.

I love Nadiya, she comes across really well. But I bought her spices book. The recipes weren't that nice. Some of them felt like they had too much of something in it. Either lime pickle or some other spice. I ws very disappointed.

I like her and think she's highly personable BUT her recipes do nothing for me, sadly. I really want to like them

I watched the first episode but I'd forgotten how much of her talking is about me, what I do, this works for me, I relax and eat this curled up on the sofa......became irritating after a while..

I’m a big fan of The Happy Foodie for sample recipes, they’ve got a few from the show on their website - https://thehappyfoodie.co.uk/recipes/books/cook-once-eat-twice-nadiya-hussain-cookbook/

Theres nothing that really excites me in this new series.

I love watching her on television, but her books don't excite me. They just aren't great when I tried them.

I find the same thing, she talks far too much for me, also Jamie Oliver, particularly his overuse of "beautiful, joyous, gnarly, joyful etc.". I like the recipes but the non stop yakking is far too irritating so I stopped watching.

I also find the eating of the food really off putting too, last week there was a real close up of Nadya's mouth as she ate something, it doesn't make me like the recipe any better and I definitely don't think it adds anything to the programme.

JO is annoying but his recipes, in my experience are always tip top. I think that sadly is the difference between a trained commercial chef and a home cook. When my DS was small, I took him to an Indian restaurant and he had some dhal. The chef asked him if he liked it and he said ' my mums is better'. It wasn't, they are just used to eating what I make! They made it properly!

This carrot & fish curry / carrot soup is gorgeous. Not sure if it will feature in the programme. I scrolled past it in the paper initially, didn't fancy the sound of it but a friend raved about it so we gave it a go and all loved both dishes. Didn't expect it to work with the fish but it really did. ,

I made the carrot soup as wanted something with a little extra oomph

First of all I was shocked by the 200g of butter to cook the species in and 2 tbsp of salt, I checked it again and again

Just had it for lunch and it's so salty I'm going to have to throw it away

In glad you mentioned the salt, I couldn't believe the quantity in the recipe! Do you think she meant teaspoons not tablespoons?

Wow even 2 tsp of salt is quite a lot!

It ws in episode 1. The recipes do look lovely but I made that mistake with the 5 spices book

I have literally just remade with a quarter of the butter, half the Cumin (as I find it harsh) and ONE teaspoon of salt

I was wondering if it was a mistake. I might have a look at the prog on I-player again

Oldraver · 11/10/2024 12:41

Well on the programme she said a 'sprinkling' of salt

Madcats · 11/10/2024 14:19

I've been toying with getting the book for the series (largely because I was intrigued by the banana skin curry!). Reviews tend to suggest that the book hasn't been proofread/edited well.

Maybe I'll just take notes from a repeat on iPlayer.

Most meals I make are based on the Cook Once Eat Twice basis. I really enjoy cooking but get stuck in once or twice a week (as you build up a repertoire) and produce something delicious that a week later you can sling out of the freezer before work and come back to a decent meal.

I will definitely give Tom Ks recipe a go. Looks delicious.

Either The Guardian has ballsed up Nadia’s quantities or there’s a typo in the original recipe. PROCEED WITH CARE!
