Air fryer is rubbish

I’ve bought a 2 drawer air fryer from Lakeland, I don’t get what’s so great about them? Soggy chicken nuggets……dry chips…… where am I going wrong? I put some oil on the chips, I shook them….i cooked and cooked and cooked hoping they’d change colour or something…..I did same with fresh chicken nuggets (M&S) it all had 35mins before I gave up and served as everyone was starving, they scoffed it all up but I chucked mine, not crispy or browned…..total pants
i put chips in a bag with oil and shook them to coat before going in the air fryer, my tefal that rotates is much better with chips but no good for anything else which is why I purchased this 2 drawer thing!

I've used the same fries and plenty of other frozen food that cooks very well in our air fryer - it is very crispy and well cooked

Mine was also shit.
It wasn't capable of cooking chips.

I don't understand the hoopla about them. They're just crap.

How were you doing your chips? Cos seriously I have a deep fat fryer and air fryer and now we prefer air fried chips to deep fried

How big is yours that you can fit a whole chicken and roast potatoes?

Ninja AF400 - I can do the whole "roast" part of a Sunday roast in it not a bother

We have a ninja two drawer one. It seems to work OK without oil. I am vegetarian and DH is on a high protein diet so he cooks chicken kievs and similar in one drawer and I do quorn and vegetable kebabs in the other. The breaded kievs come out crispy when air fried at 190C for 12 minutes. I haven't done chips but have made fried potatoes and onions in in and they were crispy too.

DH attached some nylon castors to the bottom of a piece of slate to make a surface for the air fryer to sit on that we can roll into a corner of the worktop when it isn't being used and it can roll back out when we need it. That saves hauling it in and out of cupboards.

Just as per the instruction manual.

I tried about five times, and the air fryer just couldn't manage to make chips. It was utterly tragic.

Anyway - I sent it back to Amazon, got my money back, and bought a new deep fat fryer. Problem solved.

I think that when people say that their air fryers can make chips, they mean frozen chips.

I mean proper chips from scratch. I do not like frozen chips. They're vile.

I have this issue too. I put everything to cook on the bake setting and it's fab.

Flossiecotton · 01/10/2024 09:55

Has it got a max crisp setting. I use that most but definitely for chips. Also did you have it high enough, I do mine higher than they say

I dont, I mean hand cut chips and I make them beautifully in my ninja , as good as, if not better then deep fried chips

I would send it back and get a different one - yours is either a bad one or a faulty one. There was someone on my Facebook food group who had a similar experience (not with Lakeland I don't think). Everyone told him to send it back and buy something else and he came along 3 weeks later raving about his new-new air fryer!

I do the McCain straight cup chips in mine now and again and I love how they come out. The kids prefer fries and in a pre-heated Ninja air fryer at 180, they take 6 minutes to crisp up. No additional oil needed.

I can' tbe bothered with proper chips but I occassionally do small roast potatoes for DD, from scratch. I do boil them first as I would with normal ones, btu then in the air fryer for about 15 minutes or so (I think - I haven't done for a while) and they come out beautifully. BUT, I will say, not AS GOOD as my (admittedly famous in my family) "proper" roasties.

Odd, I hardly use the oven now. We have a ninja dual drawer and it is brilliant, much crispier than using reaL oven for almost everything.
suspect you have a dud
