It is quite sour, and tastes somewhat like tamarind. Has anyone experience of using this in cooking please. It's unlikely to taste OK just as a spread, despite its name: is not buttery at all . T I A

To be fair, if the jar was sealed I can’t imagine a few months making that much of a difference. I’d imagine maybe the lid wasn’t totally sealed and it’s gone off for it to taste so unpalatable.

If its not off then pumpkin itself doesn’t usually taste of anything much so they must have used shed loads of citric acid to preserve it, just a bad recipe.

I agree, a use or sell by date of April 2024 shouldn't have gone bad as long as the vacuum seal wasn't broken. Just out of curiosity, did you hear that little 'pop' when you opened the jar?

I love pumpkin butter (and apple butter), but it's supposed to be sweet, almost as sweet as jam. FWIW here's good ol' Trader Joe's PB ingredients: pumpkin, sugar, honey, lemon juice concentrate, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg. As you can see there is NO apple cider or citric acid.

It looks like Kime's is an apple orchard back east so not surprised they put cider in their PB, but I can see where it'd make PB taste 'off'.

It contained apple cider vinegar. That would have made me think it was more like a pickle. So spread thinly on a buttered cheese biscuit and topped with cheddar. I love a good tart pickle!

Well, it wasn't too palatable and it smelled 'wrong' in retrospect. No great loss.

Apple cider isn't the same thing as acv, it's like dark, cloudy apple juice and very sweet.

@MrsMariaReynolds, @MissConductUS , if I were to eat it spread on bread or crackers, my tongue would shrivel up, the product tastes like sour cider apples. So strange...

I might have to put it in a curry sauce.

Pumpkin butter is delicious!! It should be almost like buttercream in sweetness. If it tastes like cider apples, I would not be eating it! Either someone seriously misunderstood the assignment or it’s gone off. As a child, I’d have it on bread or crackers. Delicious.

I'm convinced it had gone off ☹️

I'm American and I've never heard of it. In my experience pumpkin isn't sour, so I'd toss it.

I think the apple juice fermented and turned to a musty-smelling vinegar 😖
